Pay Rate: GBP182.40 per day

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per hour, initial contract 4 months

Main Duties of the Education Welfare Officer:

  • To undertake comprehensive assessment, planning, and review activities concerning children and families with additional educational welfare needs. This includes supporting Alternative Provision and Specialist settings, as well as families, to achieve positive outcomes for their pupils or themselves.
  • Coordinate efforts across networks, communities, and agencies to provide support to families.
  • Offer evidence-based support and make sound decisions independently and autonomously.
  • Take initiative in forming constructive alliances and acting as a catalyst for change.
  • Demonstrate good practice for universal and community professionals.
  • Engage in direct work with children, young people, and their families on an individual or group basis.
  • Arrange and facilitate meetings with parents, pupils, schools, and other agencies.
  • Serve as a liaison between Education and Early Help Services.
  • Assist in delivering the "PACE" caution on behalf of the local authority when deemed necessary due to contravention of the Education Act and potential court action.
  • Chair the Borough Court Panels in accordance with statutory duties.
  • Prepare and present evidence to the Magistrates & Family Proceedings Court under the direction of the Education Welfare and Enforcement Manager.
  • Manage fixed penalty notices according to the Council's code of conduct for issuing such penalties.
  • Support schools in drafting section 9 statements as needed and issue School Attendance Orders on behalf of the local authority.
  • Collaborate with the wider early help partnership and other services, such as SEND, YJS, Social Care, and CAMHS, to improve attendance, reduce absence, and take the lead on issues related to non-attendance and pupils out of school.
  • Manage a caseload from Alternative Provision and Special Schools, making decisions to progress cases while maintaining communication with parents, pupils, schools, and other agencies.

Requirements of the Education Welfare Officer:

  • Possession of a recognized qualification in a related profession such as ACA, CIPFA, CIMA, or ACCA.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a role related to Education Welfare, Inclusion, or similar fields.
  • Evidence of eligibility to work and reside in the UK. Current DBS check and references covering the last three years.
  • Possession of a clean UK driving license with the ability to independently commute to and from work.
