Job description

Pro-Rata Starting salary is dependent on current pay and experience, with a minimum start point of Point 4 for qualified EPs. Existing SPA points will be honoured.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and highly valued Community Educational and Child Psychology team that is expanding and evolving to meet the demands and needs of a diverse population.

We provide a working environment that promotes good working relationships and the strength of team support. You will work a school patch system in a multi-professional team, as well as contributing to Early Years, Out of Borough and other work

We continue to operate within a centrally-funded model, but we are also developing our traded offer with schools and partners. In addition, we are delivering high profile projects, such as the Sandwell Wellbeing Charter Mark, that has been commissioned by our partners in Public Health.

We also contribute the region’s Mental Health Support Team (MHST). Our Statutory work is integrated within our Graduated Response to SEND, meaning that you will usually only be undertaking statutory assessment work for children and young people who are already known to you. You will also have support from an Assistant Educational Psychologist who will help you to manage the demands of your work flow, in ways that you find most helpful to you.

In Sandwell every day is different where the work involves a variation of activities including consultation, assessment, training, research and work with Early Years children right up to Post 16 young people. Educational Psychologists have the freedom and flexibility to choose the approaches that they use in their work and there are regular opportunities to share good practice. You will also support the monitoring of young people in out of borough placements.

The ECP team have a supportive ethos and a solid team identity that is grounded in the values of Community Psychology, with a strong emphasis on person-centred approaches and anti-oppressive practice. We are a sociable, motivated and highly supportive team. You will have a laptop and mobile phone, which will enable you to work efficiently, flexibly and agilely to meet your needs.

The successful applicant will have an annual leave entitlement of up to 36 days per year and through the flexible working hours scheme, there is the possibility of taking up to 24 days flexi-leave a year. Travel expenses are paid with additional LA incentives such as the Car Loan and Cycle to Work Schemes available.

Education:

  • Degree in Psychology recognised by BPS Post Graduate Qualification in Educational and Child Psychology (recognised by BPS)

You will also be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.
