At Alfa Laval, we always go that extra mile to overcome the toughest challenges. Our driving force is to accelerate success for our customers, people and planet. You can only achieve that by having dedicated people with a curious mind. Curiosity is the spark behind great ideas. And great ideas drive progress.
As a member of our team, you thrive in a truly diverse and inclusive workplace based on care and empowerment. You are here to make a difference. Constantly building bridges to the future with sustainable solutions that have an impact on our planet’s most urgent problems. Making the world a better place. Every day.
About the job
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our projects team based in Keele, UK. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you be responsible for all electrical aspects on multiple customer projects with varied engineering requirements and deliverables. The projects will be of varied value and complexity, but will all revolve around Alfa Laval core equipment, with a focus on dewatering / thickening equipment with an emphasis on waste water treatment, but also within other food and water applications.
You will be responsible for progressing the electrical elements of projects from order/contract placement through to design, purchasing, manufacture, installation and commissioning. You will also have the opportunity to work on customer sites throughout the UK as part of the commissioning process, completing wiring modifications and helping to establish communications between our equipment and the customer's PLC. You will engage with other teams internally along the way and provide timely updates to the Project Manager. You will also provide support and advice during the project bid phase to ensure the customer's specifications and technical constraints are adhered to or deviations are highlighted when quoting.
You will be responsible for producing the electrical documentation package to a high standard; including an equipment schedule, control philosophy / function design specification, control panel documentation, cable schedules, datasheets etc. and to support the overall technical documentation generation (O&Ms, design risk assessments). You will review supplier documentation such as control panel drawings, wiring diagrams and software design, with a focus on compliance to customer specifications and operational functionality.
The role is predominantly office based where the expectation is to work most of your time within an existing team, however; following successful onboarding and initial learning phase there will be opportunity to work some of the time from home. Some other site & customer visits / Factory Acceptance Test attendance will also be required, therefore a full driving licence is essential.

Who are you

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with solid working experience in a similar role. You must have an appreciation of engineering fundamentals, you are able to read and modify electrical schematics and have a good knowledge of general Electrical Engineering principles.
You are autonomous, motivated and agile with a customer focused approach to projects, including an appreciation of time, cost and resource. You must be self reliant in prioritising, initiating, and completing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
You have fantastic communication skills, able to network and generate internal relationships to ensure customer query fulfilment. You are confident in communicating with customers whether that be in person or on calls. You are commercially aware within a projects environment and can provide concise updates to peers and management. You are structured and organised, with the ability to take initiative and drive tasks through to completion.
What you know
You have a HNC/HND in an Electrical Engineering discipline, degree preferred, and/or have served significant time in engineering related roles. You have a solid understanding of relevant UK Standards and WIMES specifications together with an understanding ATEX / DSEAR regulations.
You have knowledge of motors, variable frequency drives, pumps, flow meters, sensors, control valves etc. You have an underpinning knowledge of PLC / HMI / SCADA systems and various communication protocols.
A background with some of Alfa Laval’s products would be desirable – particularly in separation, dewatering or thickening but not essential. You have a good working level of IT and Systems and appreciation of policy and procedures.

What’s in it for you

You will be working in an international B2B environment with opportunity to network and collaborate globally. This role is part of a team that supports one another to achieve common goals.
You will be joining a team and a company that makes a difference. Alfa Laval´s technology is known for it’s high efficiency and energy saving designs. You will go to work knowing that you are truly contributing to making the world more sustainable.
The Alfa Laval culture is open, informal and supportive. We believe in diversity and equal career opportunities and encourage people to take charge of their personal development.
Alfa Laval UK&I currently provides a wide range of benefits, schemes, and initiatives to our employees including:
