Job description

Our electrical engineers are the backbone of our organisation because you play a pivotal role in restoring electricity supplies for our customers. Working alone, you are often the first person our customers might meet and in this role we also hope you will be the colleague that resolves their issue on site for them. You will have strong links to other Field Operations teams who can support onsite when necessary, but on the whole, you will be the face of National Grid onsite, providing solutions and an exceptional customer experience.

Some of the issues our customers could need your help with include: loss of supply at their property, safety concerns on our network, carrying out asset inspections or fitting meter isolator switches.

You will work 37 hours a week and subject to business need there may be requirement to undertake standby duties to provide coverage for our customers 24/7.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

About UsWe’re National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), the owner and operator behind the electricity distribution systems for the Midlands, the Southwest of England and South Wales. Serving communities of more than 8 million people, our expert teams deliver heat, light and power for homes and businesses.

National Grid employs over 29,000 people worldwide. We are building an inclusive workplace, a place to actively celebrate the cultures, personalities and preferences of our colleagues – who in turn help to build the success of our business and reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. Our vision is to be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future and we are doing this in a fast-moving industry with an increasing focus on tackling climate change, exploring new energy sources that are renewable, low carbon, and improve efficiency to meet demand.
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for this role will put health and safety at the forefront of everything they do, having an understanding of ESQCR & Electricity at Work Regulations whilst also driving a culture that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Experienced in electrical installation for commercial & domestic property and will have held customer facing roles previously which have helped develop excellent customer service and communication skills. You are required to hold a recognised Level 2 Electrical qualification (NVQ/City and Guilds).

You must hold a full, valid UK/EU driving licence and we will provide access to a Company van for business use only.

Subject to business need, there may be opportunity to broaden your duties depending on your skill set to carry out switching at HV. You will be eligible for an annual allowance for this additional work.

Holding a NRSWA qualification or understanding of NRSWA legislation is desirable but full training can be provided.

Operationally we require you to live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
About The CompanyJoining the UK’s leading electricity distribution business means plenty of career opportunities and well-deserved recognition. We reward hard work and encourage ambition. So, as well as a competitive salary, you will also benefit from:

26 days paid leave plus 8 bank holidays, up to 28 days with continuous service
Competitive contributory pension scheme (we double match your contributions up to a maximum of 12%)
Annual Share Save plan
Contributory private healthcare scheme for you and your family
Support via our Employee Assistance Programme, including musculoskeletal and physiotherapy services
