Job description

This is an exciting and influential senior role working across the organisation but based within the Human Resources Directorate. You will manage the implementation and development of the Emergency Management and Business Continuity processes across the organisation. Reporting directly to the Head of Health and Safety you will be directly responsible for delivering this agenda in line with legislative and best practice requirements.
You will use your specialist knowledge and experience to ensure the organisation meets its statutory obligations under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999. Additionally ensuring that the University is compliant with all sector specific legislation, guidance and best practice.
You will also use your specialist knowledge and skill set to embed Emergency Management and Business Continuity processes at all levels of the business.
You will engage with a wide range of internal stakeholders including, but not limited to, Executive and Non-Executive Directors, Faculty and Directorate management, Heads of School, Heads of Service, Faculty Business Managers, Estates and Facilities Teams and Media and Communications Teams, frequently both informally and formally and through oral and written mediums and you will be a key communicator within the organisation in relation to all matters concerning Emergency Management and Business Continuity
You will also develop effective and beneficial relationships with external partners ensuring cross organisational working and planning, these organisations include but are not limited to, Plymouth City Council Civil Protection Team, LRF, Plymouth City multi-agency forums, Public Health England, SW Ambulance Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Local Health providers.
You will possess the relevant qualifications and experience to effectively undertake this senior role within the organisation for example:
• A relevant Bachelor’s or Masters degree qualification in Emergency Preparedness, Management and Resilience or Disaster Management and Resilience (or similar).
• Evidence of recent, relevant and continual professional development
• M.E.P.S (Member of the Emergency Planning Society)
• NEBOSH Health and Safety qualification and Experience/or willingness to undertake relevant training to gain a qualification (Desirable)
You will be technically experienced with a proven delivery record of delivering sophisticated business enabling services that meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders.
You will have experience of working at a senior level within a complex, dynamic operating environment with a diverse customer base and experience of leading an agenda of change within a complex environment. You will also have extensive knowledge, skills and experience of Business Continuity Planning and associated processes.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37 hours a week.
