Midaye is looking for a dedicated, energetic and organised Programme Manager to be part of our Management Team and a central part of our close-knit, vibrant and committed staff team. The postholder will manage Midaye’s multiple community projects that empower, advocate for, and support West London’s BME migrant communities for whom English is an additional language. Our clients are usually first- and second-generation refugees, ex-refugees and migrants. We help them recover from trauma, become healthier, find confidence and purpose, become better educated and more connected and rooted in our society, and more informed and better able to access services.
We are looking for a very special person, who can combine the efficiency and management skills of an effective Programme Manager with the flexibility, respect and listening skills needed to create and deliver services that are truly community-led. Managed by our Deputy Director, this key role will work within our Management Team, working closely with our Community Liaison Manager to design and manage services that deliver effective impact for those in need. The postholder will be able to translate the ideas, voices, and needs elicited by our community engagement processes (led by the Community Liaison Manager) into workable, culturally informed projects that can be delivered within resources available. Together these two postholders will also develop and maintain our partnerships with statutory and other community organisations, under the direction of our Director and Deputy Director.
If you would like to join us in providing our crucial community services, you will demonstrate that you are able to clearly picture the landscapes and pathways of complex projects, create robust project delivery plans, procure and assign resources effectively, assess and proactively mitigate risks, drive and adapt specified outcomes, and provide effective feedback to team members. You will be highly organised and efficient, able to prioritise and manage your workload and able to support a diverse staff team in providing services. You will have a good understanding of community organisations, excellent interpersonal skills and high levels of emotional and cultural competency. Project management skills, budget management experience and confidence with IT systems are also very important. Evidence that you are powerfully motivated by compassion and place significant value on social justice, mental health and empowering women will count strongly in your favour.
In return, you will gain the satisfaction of knowing that your work is making a real difference to disadvantaged and deprived communities in London. Your role will be a crucial one within Midaye, and the work you do keeping us organised and on track will be appreciated by staff, volunteers, trustees and clients alike. You will have the opportunity to grow in your role, and to gain experience in all areas of running a busy charity.
Our amazing delivery team brings their lived experience to bear in working tirelessly to help our communities – and this informs their passion, insight and teamwork. You will be at the centre of this hive of activity and part of a friendly organisation that prioritises staff wellbeing, working towards community goals with good humour and kindness.
About Midaye
Midaye was set up in 2002 by women from the local community, and we are still, predominantly, a women-led and run organisation. We work multilingually across West London with communities from Africa and the Middle East. We are led by community members through open Forums, consultation, and our Trustee Board, and we work to ensure the most isolated can take part in our work, benefit from it, and in turn be empowered to lead.
We provide advice & information, outreach, training, mentoring and support on e.g., health (physical, emotional and mental health), practical difficulties (housing, benefits, etc.), education, FGM, domestic violence and other issues. We offer befriending services for older people, activities for children and empowerment programmes for women. We work across all these areas using an advocacy model that empowers the most marginalised members of our communities; helping individuals to help themselves and have the knowledge to improve their life in a meaningful way.
Although we are still small, we have grown rapidly over the past 5 years: we have developed partnerships with local authorities, local NHS services, and other charities, and have become known for our innovative community work on FGM, mental health and community engagement. We seek to amplify community voices beyond our own service delivery and are valued contributors to local and national policy and academic research in our areas of work.
