Coventry City Council’s Legal and Procurement Services arepart of the public sector providing in-house legal support and has custodial responsibility for public spending to Coventry City Council.

The Legal Services team offers a professional comprehensive, tailor-made service to address legal issues of every description. The team is highly motivated, eager to develop and face challenges head on.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Employment Lawyer in the Regulatory Team who can undertake work in all aspects of employment law for the Council including advising human resource officers and senior managers on casework, responding to Employment Tribunal claims, and offering direction and training on a wide range of employment matters to Council services and schools. This is a varied and interesting role at the heart of the local authority and all appropriate training will be provided.

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive. You have a good knowledge of employment law. You are able to give sound, pragmatic legal advice on complex matters to officers and schools. You have strong drafting and oral presentation skills.

You must be able to work effectively as part of a team and establish good relations with our client departments, schools and outside agencies.

Good organisational, communication and IT skills will be required, as well as the ability to work to tight deadlines. You need to be able to draft legal documents and correspondence, carry out legal research, conduct training sessions and appropriate advocacy and attend meetings to provide advice to senior managers.
