Job description

As an Employment Practice Consultant, you play a vital role in developing and implementing people policies, procedures, and systems aligned with Our People strategies. Your responsibilities include monitoring employment legislation developments, assessing their impact on Council policies, and ensuring legal compliance while promoting cutting-edge practices. Collaborating with People & Change colleagues, trade union representatives, and stakeholders is crucial to ensuring practical and acceptable people policy proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement people policies, procedures, and systems to support Our People strategies.
Monitor employment legislation developments and assess their impact on Council policies for legal compliance and best practices.
Liaise and consult with People & Change colleagues and trade union representatives to ensure practical and acceptable policy proposals.
Assess and address the equality and diversity impact on all HR policies to foster an inclusive culture.
Analyze, report, and provide recommendations for managing complex situations to support decision-making.
Maintain, develop, and review systems, processes, and procedures to maximize service delivery, quality, efficiency, and compliance.
Provide specialist advice within defined policies/strategies and procedures to support informed decision-making.
Plan workloads, lead projects, and secure resources to enhance service delivery.
May assist with budget/resource management and have delegated responsibility for budgets.
Build relationships with internal departments, customers, partner organizations, and agencies to support and represent the team/service.
Monitor and support the performance management and development of team members.
Uphold the values and behaviors of the organization, promote equality of opportunity, and ensure health, safety, and welfare policies are implemented.
Key Requirements:
Professional Qualification:
Possession of a professional qualification or ability to evidence knowledge and understanding of appropriate business disciplines.IT Proficiency:
Comprehensive knowledge of computerized business systems in terms of functionality and capability (some roles).Business Management Knowledge:
Knowledge of principles, practices, policies, and procedures relating to business planning and financial and organizational management.Communication Skills:
Proven written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with good negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners/professionals.Customer Focus:
Ability to understand, meet, and exceed customer expectations.Problem-Solving Skills:
Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise high levels of initiative to devise and implement workable solutions.Project Management:
Proven ability to manage a range of projects through to completion.Practical/Professional Experience:
Significant practical or professional experience and understanding of business, supporting service teams, and/or providing support to the public.Management Experience:
Previous management experience, including staff supervision, development, and organizational skills.
