Salary: UE07 £37,099 – £44,263 per annum (A revised salary range for this grade of £39,347 to £46,974 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024).

The Role
The Energy Manager (UE07) will assist the Energy & Utilities Team to manage and maintain the University’s complex energy and utilities management system (EnMS) in line with the Energy Strategy including utilities procurement, finance, contract management, regulatory compliance, metering and monitoring, performance target setting, asset performance monitoring, operational carbon assessments, communication and liaison with other University managers and Engineers.
They will maintain relationships throughout the University’s internal and external supply chains to identify and deliver energy-related projects focusing on systems improvement, energy conservation, carbon reduction, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and communicate management information, for senior management review, related to uticonsumption, fiscal accounts, and utilities performance. Monitor utilities consumption targets, budgets and performance assessments using a wide scope of data assessment and analytical techniques. Assist in the preparation of accurate recharge bills for internal and external clients.
Identify energy performance anomalies and opportunities for performance improvement; propose technical and behavioural performance improvements. Undertake site energy audits, prepare feasibility studies and propose improvement projects. Present issues, opportunities and solutions to the Energy Team, Estates colleagues and wider members of the University community.
Liaise with electricity, gas and water services suppliers on utility queries and carry out reviews of costs and assets to ensure correct billing. Maintain the energy and water supply registers through liaison with suppliers on new supplies, contract additions / deletions and disconnections to ensure all systems are kept up to date.
Monitor, maintain and report on regulatory compliance issues. Liaise with colleagues, regulators and reporting bodies. Participate in internal and external site audits. Maintain accurate and timely records. Maintain the University’s Energy Management System (EnMS) and associated processes, software and management tools. Contribute to the continuous improvement and efficacy of the EnMS.
Utilise effective communication channels within the Estates Department and beyond to ensure energy and carbon considerations are integrated into all projects and developments.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Significant experience of Building Services systems.
• An understanding of Energy Management Systems.
• Experience managing and monitoring project budgets, and reporting on utilities and carbon performance.
• Experience of energy, utilities and carbon targets and performance assessment.
• Experience leading site energy surveys and technical audits, carrying out inspections, surveys, risk assessments, feasibility studies and diagnostic fault finding.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience with an attention to detail.
• Strong up to date knowledge of professional energy engineering guidelines and legislation.
• Excellent numeracy, interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to persuade, influence and negotiate with staff at all levels of seniority.
• A practical understanding of Health and Safety legislation and management.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities within a demanding workload.
