Ofgem is the regulator of Britain’s gas and electricity markets and is helping to shape the future of the energy market - delivering better energy efficiency through renewable energy sources and protecting the interests of energy consumers.
We now have a role available in our Information Requests team for a well organised candidate with an eye for detail.
In this role you will work across our renewable energy schemes when responding to Information Requests from a variety of sources. You will liaise with colleagues across the organisation to support you in formulating thorough, accurate and timely responses. This could include presenting information to senior colleagues or lawyers so that they can advise and contribute on complex or sensitive matters. Interpreting and applying relevant legislation and regulations (such as EIR, SAR, FOI), privacy policies and legal advice will be an important part of your role.
It’s important that you already have excellent analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, ideally supported by knowledge of EIR, SAR and FOI legislation. You should be well-organised so that you can adapt to a shifting workload within a team environment while taking personal initiative for moving things forward. Good communication skills will help to ensure that the responses you prepare are easy to interpret, accessible and use clear language.
Key Responsibilities
- Working across all schemes having an in depth understanding of scheme regulations, delivery, and platforms that each scheme uses
- Speak to relevant teams in business to obtain the most accurate information when extracting data, drafting responses, or gaining advice
- Interpret and apply legislation and regulations – EIR / SAR / FOI / Privacy Policy /Legal advice
- Identify cases that may have to be flagged to departments where there may be a potential impact on current ongoing work
- Creation/contribution to requests for legal advice and conversations with our Legal colleagues
- Review data and make unbiased decisions on whether this can be released or withheld by applying exceptions/exemptions as per legislation
- Providing clear evidence of why exceptions apply and what arguments have been considered. Include a public interest test where necessary
- Handle detailed and often difficult conversations with stakeholders from other parts of the business (including senior management/Legal) with confidence, recognising and mitigating conflicts when they arise
- Generate accurate and comprehensive written responses ready for review
- Ensure communication and requests use clear language, considering accessibility where appropriate

- Clear, concise and accurate responses to requesters
- Extract information & data including communicating with colleagues outside immediate team to gather additional data/seek guidance
- Manipulate and sanitize data in preparation for release
- Apply exceptions/exemptions as per regulations and create response keeping accurate records of decision making
- To meet internal statutory deadlines

The essential criteria for this role is:
- Strong analytical skills LEAD
