Job role:Engineering Apprentice Level 3

Location: Kings Lynn


During your apprenticeship you will undertake and work towards completing apprentice training agreement, including attending college and completing appropriate course work and examinations. You will be required to attend College of West Anglia 1 day a week.


You will assist in providing an engineering service to maintenance activities to ensure the smooth running of the ports, whilst completing your apprenticeship.


You will also:

  • Undertake and work towards completing apprentice training agreement, including attending college and completing appropriate course work and examinations.
  • To work in a safe and methodical manner to ABP’s Safe Systems of Work and take an active part in risk assessments.
  • To assist in carrying out inspection, maintenance, fault diagnostics and installation work safely in line with all current legislation and ABP guidelines.
  • Understand and work to ABP’s Permit to Work system.
  • Ensure all work is completed to appropriate standard in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the maintenance of cranes, machinery and equipment.
  • Assist with the maintenance of ship locks, sluices and associated equipment.
  • Assist with the maintenance of ports buildings including transit sheds and offices and maintenance and repair of workshop machinery.
  • Assist with carrying out scheduled servicing and report any defects.
  • Co-operate closely with other disciplines and contractors.
  • Undertake cargo handling operations both ashore and on vessel in a flexible pattern as required (subject to suitable training).

Entry requirements:

  • 5x GCSE’s Including Maths and English
  • Be able to demonstrate a keen interest in engineering.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Working at height
