About the opportunity:
Jacobs Nuclear is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver GBP7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.
Jacobs Nuclear provides the front-end design and engineering capability across the PPP portfolio. We are currently looking for an Engineering Director to join the team in Birchwood/Cumbria.
This is a new role which is part of a programmatic approach to the design work on PPP across all stages of the construction life cycle. The role will deliver the following outcomes:
  • Creation of a single team of multi- functional engineers
  • Building a diverse team that attracts technical excellence.
  • Ensuring that the right mix of capability and capacity is being deployed, b y working with Projects,
  • Reducing the construction period by at least 50 years
  • Delivering exceptional safety through design

Particular responsibilities for:
  • Multi-disciplinary building design delivery to an appropriate level of quality
  • Facilitate the technical coordination of the multi-disciplinary design process to achieve a fully integrated and quality compliant design
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and Discipline Leads to ensure that deliverables (both internal and external) are delivered in the most efficient manner possible
  • Establish and maintain short/medium term look-ahead with the discipline leads to ensure that key day-to-day information exchanges and coordination activities are identified in detail and monitored
  • Develop and implement the overall Engineering delivery strategy
  • Facilitate communication, coordination and collaboration between Engineering teams.
  • Direct liaison with client engineering and management teams; and communication of all instructions and overarching requirements to the team
  • Undertakes regular reporting as set out by the programme requirements.
  • Provide Line Management to the Engineering leads across the PPP portfolio

The role will be to assist and support project delivery across the PPP portfolio and will cover disciplines across all stages of project execution. The preponderance of activities will however align to Engineering delivery, including associated development and embedding of engineering delivery processes on to projects.
The team is welcoming and supportive. Projects range from high complexity process driven, to lower complexity infrastructure driven, but all contain technical challenges to keep the team engaged and on top of their game. Within PPP there are a number of opportunities to develop and progress through different roles, should the individual demonstrate the necessary attributes.
Here's What You'll Need:
  • Excellent understanding of engineering and associated interfacing/alignment with non-engineering disciplines
  • Detailed understanding and hands on experience of EPCM execution principles and processes from initial Business Case approval to facility dismantling/decommissioning
  • Engineering Management experience on major projects (multiple sectors beneficial)
  • Experience of working across all phases of the construction lifecycle
  • Appreciation of detailed engineering work processes and quality management/ assurance requirements
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and spoken
  • Experience in collaborative business relationships
  • Proven senior and executive level stakeholder management
  • Ability to show flexibility of approach in dealing with team colleagues and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Nuclear domain, regulatory framework and nuclear safety requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineering or equivalent
