Role overview

We are looking to recruit an Engineering Manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers and contractors. You will drive a continuous improvement culture within the maintenance team, providing a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure.

Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by your actions or lack of action at work
  • Cooperate with the organisation and co-workers to help everyone meet their Health and safety obligations
  • Ensuring company Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) policies are strictly adhered to
  • Bring to their attention any safety concerns or potential shortfalls in our HSEQ provisions
  • Report all accidents, incidents and near misses at the time they occur
  • Manage, coach and develop a high-performing maintenance team that meets agreed objectives, and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvement
  • Management of mechanical and electrical engineering contractors
  • Responsible for effectively managing the team and organising workload
  • Responsible for drafting Risk Assessments / Method Statements / Safe Working procedures with appropriate follow-up training and assessment to monitor adherence and practicality
  • Responsible for delivering the requisite level of Planned Preventative Maintenance, refurbishment and replacement of process equipment to support the Operations team in delivering optimised plant availability and throughput
  • Deliver Reliability Centred Maintenance strategy derived from OEM recommendations, in-service failure diagnosis and PPM frequency and continuously review asset performance to eliminate/reduce mechanical or electrical failures
  • Ensure that the Computerised Maintenance Management System is maintained, developed and actions processed
  • Co-ordinate and arrange Statutory plant inspections and ensure non-conformances and improvement recommendations are progressed in a timely manner, or items removed promptly from service until safe to use
  • Monitor Mobile plant reliability and Uptime and hold regular meetings with main OEMs to agree repairs / costs / actions for lease and owned equipment and provide update on the asset replacement schedule
  • Oversee the development of Apprentices to ensure off-site learning attendance and performance achieved and on-site experience is suitably supervised and deployed to maximise learning exposure to multiple equipment types / fault diagnosis and repair tasks
  • Continually review Critical Spare Parts inventory and confirm regular monthly stock checks to avoid production losses through lack of availability of parts and financial write downs
  • Oversee Maintenance Spares procurement, and authorise accordingly
  • Attend Accounts meetings and / or provide monthly reports to explain and justify expenditure
  • Develop Supplier relations and consignment stock and discount rebate opportunities to drive down Repairs & maintenance costs
  • Develop energy efficiency procurement and plant modification plans to reduce energy consumption
  • Responsible for mechanical and electrical engineering services installations
  • Management of multiple projects to ensure achievement of goals on time and within budget
  • Management of recruitment, onboarding and training.

Engineering Manager Requirements:

Essential:

  • HNC Electrical or Mechanical
  • Experience of electrical systems / plant automation controls and sequencing
  • Project Management
  • Must have experience of FMEA, FTA, SMED, & Implementation of autonomous maintenance programs
  • Experience in the use of CAD
  • Experienced in fast-moving continuous or batch processing environment with heavy industrial equipment and automation
  • Experienced in technical and practical problem solving within the installation field
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining of 5 ‘S’
  • IT literate (MS applications & CMMS)
  • Proven man-management and team development skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the business
  • Planning and organisational skills & ability to prioritise
  • Leadership skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Change management
  • Commercial acumen
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding role

Desirable:

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Experience of Lean & CI techniques
