Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship

Are you due to finish school or college and keen to gain some hands on experience? Have you considered a career in Engineering and Manufacturing?

Starting at the end of August 2024, as a Level 3 Advanced Engineering Technician Apprentice at Siemens Healthineers, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in one of the world's leading healthcare companies.

In this four year Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship, you will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in Engineering and Manufacturing in a world-class environment. Over time, you’ll take on more responsibility and accountability as your skills, knowledge and expertise increase to set you up to excel in future Manufacturing Operations roles.

At our Magnet Technology factory in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, we’ve been welcoming apprentices for many years and you will join a network of apprentices and early career professionals that are highly valued across the business. Our site is at the forefront of manufacturing high-tech medical imaging equipment used by healthcare professionals worldwide, and our Manufacturing Engineering team are a vital part of this operation. As we plan for our move to our new purpose-built factory in the next few years, our Engineering Apprentices have an important role to play in ensuring our future readiness.

What do I need to know about undertaking an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship?

  • As an Engineering Technician Apprentice at Siemens Healthineers, you will be working towards the Level 3Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, which is delivered in partnership with BMet.
  • You will join one of our teams within Manufacturing Operations, which is responsible for the production of our superconducting magnets that are installed in MRI and other Medical Imaging Machines.
  • During your four year Apprenticeship with us, you will gain experience across all areas of production but will develop specialist skills and knowledge within one area.
  • You will be line managed by one of our Cell Leaders, and your training will be supervised by a qualified assessor. In addition to this we have a good network of current Apprentices at different stages already partway through their Apprenticeships with us.
  • Training will be in the form of block release to college in the first year, followed by day release for the second & third year. During years 2 & 3 you will gain more manufacturing experience, as you spend more of your time on site. We will familiarize you with our site and operations prior to you starting college in year one.
  • Depending on business requirements and your progression, there are opportunities to extend your learning to NVQ Level 3 qualification and beyond, including Higher Education.

The intention would be that upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you would take up a role within our Manufacturing Operations team.

Who are we looking for?

  • You should have or be working towards 4 GCSEs at Grade 5 (C) or above, which must include Maths, English Language and Science.
  • You should be studying towards the higher-level Maths GCSE, desirably obtaining a B or higher.
  • You must be keen and have an inquiring mind, and be able to demonstrate your enthusiasm for your work and our business.
  • You must be able to produce accurate work that is to strict specifications. An interest in ‘making things’ is essential.
  • You should possess excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to enable you to work within a team focused environment.

You will also need to meet the government's eligibility criteria:

  • Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for the past three years or more prior to starting the course.
  • Have left full time education when the apprenticeship you are applying for is due to start.
  • Be aged at least 16 years old to meet government funding criteria.

What We Offer You:

  • A comprehensive four year Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship with a global industry leading company.
  • Mentorship and support to help you develop professionally.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our operations and products.
  • A competitive apprenticeship salary with regular increases during the scheme.
  • 26 days holiday
  • Access to our flexible benefits from private medical insurance to dental cover
  • Support from our 24/7 employee assistance programme
  • Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities including 2 paid volunteering days per year
  • A friendly and inclusive work environment.

In addition, we provide a flexible and dynamic environment with the space to stretch beyond your comfort zone in order to grow both personally and professionally. Our unique team spirit arises from embracing different perspectives, open debate, and the will to challenge conventions. Change is a constant aspect of our work. We aspire to lead the change in our industry rather than just react to it. That’s why we want you to seek, implement and celebrate your best ideas.

We believe an inclusive culture is a pre-requisite if we aspire to serve the eight billion people on our planet. As a diverse organization, we can better relate to the people – whether customers or patients – their communities and the specific challenges they face. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are therefore important aspects of our wider responsibilities.

As a leading medical technology company, we focus our sustainability efforts on improving quality of life through access to care, contribute to regenerative and healthy environment, and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. We innovate sustainably to enable healthcare for everyone, everywhere.

Recruitment Process:

  • During our Selection and Assessment process for Early Careers, we like to give our candidates the best chance to showcase their potential by using a variety of assessment types.
  • To support the shortlisting process for our Early Careers roles, and to enable candidates to showcase their potential beyond what is on their CV, we will often make use of online assessments or/and on-demand video assessments.
  • Further assessment usually takes the form of interview or/and an assessment centre. Assessment centres typically include some combination of activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews and presentations.
  • In most cases we try to hold these final stage interviews or assessments in person where possible, to enable candidates to meet our team and get to understand a little bit more about what we do and what it might be like to work for us.
