We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team at a SEMH school, catering to students aged 10 to 17 years old. Our school provides a highly nurturing environment where students with SEMH and autism receive tailored support to thrive academically and socially.
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Salary: M1 - M6 Teaching Scale, final salary based on experience.
As an English Teacher at our SEMH school, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging and differentiated English lessons to students with complex mental health needs, SEMH, and autism across the school.
- Creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic progress, personal development, and positive relationships among students.
- Implementing effective behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours and support students in developing self-regulation and emotional resilience.
- Collaborating with colleagues to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to student support, including liaising with SENCOs, therapists, and support staff.
- Providing regular feedback on student progress and achievements, communicating with parents/carers and external agencies as needed.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of EHCPs and interventions to meet the diverse needs of students.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- An Enhanced DBS check, confirming your suitability to work with children and young people in a school setting.
- Previous experience teaching English within a school environment, preferably with students with SEMH and autism.
- A QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or relevant teaching qualification, demonstrating your competence and expertise in English teaching.
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to establish a positive rapport with students, building trust and fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.
- An engaging and adaptable teaching style, with the ability to deliver English lessons that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of students.
- Flexibility, resilience, and a willingness to work collaboratively within a small, independent school setting.
