About The Role

Job Summary

Are you passionate about ensuring only the right patients are in ED?

Would you like to work flexible hours around your existing role?

Are you an experienced clinician with skills in advanced clinical assessment?

Then look no further as Practice Plus Group have a job for you!

Practice Plus Group are looking for Enhanced Clinical Validation Clinicians to join a team of well established, experienced senior clinicians working across the Devon Integrated Care System (ICS) to deliver an exciting new model of care in line with the NHS 111 service: Enhanced Clinical Validation of emergency outcomes.

You will contact patients triaged by 111 who have either an initial Emergency Department or Ambulance outcome (category 3 and 4) from NHS Pathways to provide telephony-based care including clinical assessment, treatment, referral and advice. The team is well established and currently, around 80% of the patients they speak are not referred to Emergency Department or the ambulance service.

Why is this role right for you?

A fully flexible role including:
  • Flexible hours – that fit around your professional and personal life
  • Flexible Contracts - We can offer working patterns through Self Employed or a Bank route.
  • Flexible location – work from home (anywhere in the UK) or from a vibrant contact centre
  • Flexible shift times – ranging from 4 hours to 10 hours
  • Flexible days – work the days that work for you with no week-on-week commitment

What you'll be doing

Where will I work?

We would recommend that initially you work from the 111 Contact Centre in Exeter (Stratus House, Emperor Way) or Plymouth (Taylor Maxwell House, Armada Street) where we can help you get familiar with the IT system and support you while you get used to remote consultation. Once you are confident, we can arrange for you to work from your usual place of work, or from home.

Which patients will I speak to?

You will consult with patients who have been identified by the 111 service as requiring one of the Emergency Departments in Devon. You may be talking to people who have identified as needing a category 3,4 or 5 ambulance to ensure its appropriate.

How will I consult with patients?

Using a recorded line through a mobile app, you will consult with patients, have a look at their injuries and using your clinical judgement, decide on the most appropriate management. This may be advice regarding self-management, or onward referral to another services (urgent treatment centre, minor injury unit, pharmacy, GP out-of-hours, Emergency Department).

How do I know which services are available to help my patients?

A system called PaCCS – Pathways Clinical Consultation Support - allows you search on services that are available near to patients and how to access them e.g. MIUs, pharmacies, mental health etc.

What we’ll look for in you

Will I need to learn a new IT system?

The service uses a system call Adastra which tracks the patients, much like IT systems used in EDs. Adastra also gives you access to the patient’s GP records, previous consultations with 111, enables you to document your consultation electronically and prescribe to any pharmacy in England.

You will have:
  • Current GMC / NMC / HCPC registration
  • Primary care, Emergency Department or Urgent Treatment Centre
  • For Nurses and AHP’s – Full MSc or equivalent. Senior ACP role (level 5) remit
  • Full membership of a medical indemnity organisation
  • Inclusion on the Medical Performers list (Doctors)

Practice Plus Group are one of England’s largest independent providers of NHS services and have been providing Integrated Urgent Care Services in Devon since 27th September 2022. They also provide services in Suffolk, North East Essex, Surrey, North West London, South West London. Practice Plus Group will support you through an induction and training process, and help you get familiar with the IT systems and provide technical support.
