Main Responsibilities 

To support the new structure and continued growth within the UK, the Bank requires an experienced and dynamic Enterprise Architect to join a growing team, help mature the capability and support an ambitious technology transformation agenda.

The purpose of the role is to own the preparation of architecture, blueprints, roadmaps and standards, which support the business functions at an enterprise level, aligning people, process and technology to the UK and Group IT strategies.

Working closely with the business and IT teams across Handelsbanken, the role is responsible for the alignment of IT strategy to the day to day standards and practices adopted across the bank, in both the ‘Run’ and ‘Change’ parts of the organisation.

The role will ensure the best deployment of Handelsbanken capabilities and investments, in terms of IT processes, systems and technologies, and ensure that these are appropriately aligned to business needs and priorities.

The role must focus to ensure consistency of direction and choices for the technology landscape, avoiding and removing unnecessary differences and duplication and ensuring that systems integrate together as they need to.

The role will report to the Head of UK Enterprise Architecture

  • Working with others in the Strategy and Architecture functions to help develop the IT Strategy based on business needs.
  • Leading conversations with the business to identify, and assess appropriate technology and systems change initiatives in the context of the business and IT strategy.
  • Planning and delivering the continual improvement of the overall technology architecture via projects and programmes in line with Handelsbanken’s strategic goals.
  • Developing relationships with key stakeholders including business teams, strategic suppliers and internal technology teams
  • Inputting into reports on business & operational architecture, including key issues, change initiatives and escalation of design decisions.
  • Providing a level of oversight and support for programmes and projects and their associated architecture deliverables and ensuring that appropriate architectural governance is followed.
  • Designing and maintaining Enterprise Architecture blueprints, and ensuring appropriate Enterprise Architecture artefacts, frameworks and patterns are developed and maintained as references for business and technology teams.
  • Feeding into Risk and controls processes for IT Solution Architecture. Identifying all areas of risk, including Architectural, Technical and Security, managing them with the relevant stakeholders, and defining appropriate work to address or escalate as necessary.
  • Providing architectural guidance and consultancy to the solution architecture teams and other areas of IT and the organisation as required.
  • Providing technology, architecture, business and design expertise to business and project teams, including business case and design reviews, to ensure alignment of deliveries with overall business operational and technical strategies.
  • Supporting implementation projects by assisting in the resolution of architecture and design issues.
  • Ensuring that security is considered as part of the design and delivery process in consultation with the IT security teams.

  • Broad knowledge of IT technologies, technical architectures and systems integration.
  • Extensive experience as an architect in complex Financial Services organisations
  • Ability to convey architecture through the use of a variety of communication techniques.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at a variety of levels.
  • Ability to manage the trade-offs that may be necessary between concept and delivery.
  • Experience as a Lead or Enterprise Architect within a regulated industry
  • Experience working closely with senior stakeholders across a large multi-national commercial organisation
  • Experience of transformation programmes covering complex legacy environments
