Our client, a large government customer, are seeking an Enterprise Architect – Systems Engineering to join their team. The role is based in Portsmouth and is mostly remote based, with occasional site visits. The role requires SC clearance (DV desirable) and candidates must be sole UK nationals.
Requirements are scheduled to run until 31/03/2025 (220 days) and offer a rate up to £900/day.
IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. Our client has indicated that they intend to operate the engagement as Inside IR35. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement. The rates above represent rate payable to the umbrella co.

The Role
The team require an Enterprise Architect capacity who is able to support the definition of the Enterprise Architecture (in particular related to Business Processes, Functions, Capabilities, Requirements, Goals and Objectives) of the current programme. Responsibilities are to provide leadership, direction and expertise to capture and develop the Business Capabilities and supporting architecture, including security architectures.
Brief Team Description
The department has put in place a Programme Approach to ensure that a coherent and overarching Security Architecture is developed across all separately commissioned Projects and that a common Assurance and Accreditation regime is used by all to ensure that the resulting capability delivers against the requirements defined for them.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and guidance, setting the direction and strategy for definition of the Enterprise Architecture for this project and associated missions.
- Regular meetings and workshops, on a project-by-project basis, and occasionally at a programme level.
- Diagrams and documents that capture the strategy.
- Collaboration with mission teams in order to define the Enterprise Architecture for this project and solution architectures for associated missions.
- Liaison with stakeholders to elicit requirements and business needs.
- Manage documentation of requirements and business needs from stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and support to the development of mechanisms and strategies to implement “secure-by-design” security principle.
- Development and contribution to artefacts capturing the Enterprise Architecture, e.g. business model, business processes, organisations, operating model and concepts of operation.
- Artefacts from relevant part of the developed methodology to meet the projects and wider programmatic requirements.
- Identification of the skills and competencies required by the Business Processes/Functions, translation of these into Training Requirements and approximate sizing of personnel numbers to establish a range of levels of capability.
- Training requirements specification, mentoring.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining Enterprise and solution architectures with TOGAF or NAF.
- Experience developing and implementing model-based Systems Engineering methodologies.
- Experience of developing architectures and/or Systems Engineering.
- Experience of developing a target operating model, business processes and organisational design for major new capability.
- Experience of using Sparx Enterprise Architect.
- Experience of building architectures across all layers in Archimate 3.1.
- Experience of linking technical architectures with programme and project artefacts.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience of using JavaScript, especially within the Sparx EA environment to develop custom scripts.
- Confident communicator; ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Active contributor to workshops, meetings and discussions.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to leverage external expertise; via supply chain and/or own company reachback.
- Ability to disseminate results and exchange knowledge.
- TOGAF certified.
- Archimate certified.
Other Information
- Role is a hybrid role: onsite working and meetings at higher classification as and when required (approx. 50% of time), predominantly Portsmouth, occasionally Salisbury, Wyton, Guildford or Leeds.
- Balance of role shall be conducted remotely, utilising a company Laptop at OS
- SC clearance is mandatory. DV clearance is desirable.
