Job description

Food Safety Officer / Environmental Health Officer

Under the general direction of the Environmental Health Team Leader to carry out duties in relation to food control

  • Undertake inspections and other visits to assess compliance with relevant legislation
  • Undertake post inspection administration in relation to the inspection (food hygiene rating, report of visit, code of practice risk scoring assessment)
  • Investigate alleged breaches of legislation
  • Provide advice and guidance

Additional responsibilities:

  • To always see the service through the eyes of the customer and make suggestions for improvement where appropriate
  • To carry out duties efficiently and effectively
  • To constantly challenge own performance and make improvements
  • To help build pride, passion and reputation for NWLDC
  • To participate in the Council’s appraisal scheme and to undertake any necessary training and development as identified for the job role
  • To ensure high standards of health and safety practice are maintained in accordance with council policy, including the health and safety and welfare at work of themselves and colleagues.
  • To promote the Council's Equality and Diversity Policy to ensure service provision and employment practices are non-discriminatory.
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks appropriate to the grading of the post and as required by the line manager

Working pattern flexible

No fixed hours

inspections to be completed by 29 March

To undertake 60 food hygiene inspection (40 unrated, 20 risk category D (broadly compliant)

In the role of Environmental Health / Food Safety Officer it is essential that you answer yes to the following criteria:

  1. Are you eligible to work in the UK?
  2. Do you hold a current driving licence and have a vehicle available for work purposes?
  3. Do you hold the Higher Certificate in Food Control or MSc / BSc / Diploma in Environmental Health?
  1. Do you hold the Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB)
  2. Do you have relevant work experience including food hygiene enforcement within the last 18 months?
  1. Do you have sufficient relevant continued professional development (CPD) to ensure the requirements of the Code of Practice are upheld?
