You will be supported to lead our teams in delivering a diverse portfolio of services. In this senior management role you’ll oversee and innovate to ensure we offer strong public protection, community safety and environmental quality to our communities. This is a key role in shaping and organising high-quality service delivery, driving support and seeking opportunities for improvement across two districts with a combined population of over 270,000. Your work will be customer-oriented and outcome-focused, with a strong strategic and corporate focus, and you’ll need to keep people at the heart of everything you do.

 What you’ll be doing…

  • Managing, planning, developing and continuously improving the delivery of services of the Environmental Protection team
  • Ensuring the Councils meet the wide range of statutory duties to protect public health and the environment by implementing environmental legislation in relation to statutory nuisances and anti-social behaviour, air quality, contaminated land, water quality and pollution control.
  • Ensuring the Councils’ Environmental Protection policies and procedures reflect legislative change and current good practice and review and update them as required.
  • Overseeing the team’s enforcement activity and instigation of prosecutions, cultivating high standards and when actively involved prepare statements and attend court hearings as required.

You must have…

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health and be registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board.
  • Have, or be willing to work towards, Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner status.
  • Evidence of significant post-qualification experience in a similar or related role.
  • An ability to demonstrate team leadership experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the full range of community and Environmental Protection functions and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation.
  • Experience of successfully leading, developing and motivating a team. Skilled and creative problem solver.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of delivering to a wide range of audiences.
