Wigan Council are seeking an Environmental Health Officer to join their Private Sector Housing Team. This role is crucial in supporting our commitment to tackling housing standards enforcement and the use of civil penalties within the borough. The successful candidate will provide advice and guidance on environmental and housing-related legislation, investigate breaches, and undertake inspection and enforcement activities.
Day to Day of the Role:- Inspect premises as required for purposes aligned with the service’s aims, including surveys involving residential premises.
- Work with owners of long-term empty properties and enforce actions when necessary.
- Prepare reports on residential premises and conditions related to them.
- Investigate complaints within the directorate’s responsibilities and initiate appropriate actions, including the service of statutory notices.
- Inspect residential premises and Houses of Multiple Occupation on a planned or reactive basis.
- Respond to service requests promptly and investigate any breaches of housing and environmental regulations.
- Investigate Environmental Health and Housing complaints, ensuring compliance with regulations and taking necessary actions.
- Inspect properties using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
- Process applications related to grants, loans, licensing, registration, or consent in accordance with legislation and council policy.
- Prepare legal proceedings and give evidence in court or at public inquiries as required.
- Provide professional advice and assistance to other directorates, professions, trades, and the public.
- Maintain records and registers relevant to the section’s work and ensure GDPR compliance.
