Job description

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual specialising in food and safety to join our Environmental Health team.

About the role

You will have a key role in a small, highly motivated and competent Environmental Health team. You will be inspecting premises, investigating complaints and service requests and, when appropriate, taking enforcement action. These actions fulfil our statutory duties in relation to food safety, occupational health and safety and infectious disease control. You will also take part in the team’s sampling programme.

We aim to make the district a safe place to work, live and visit by delivering good quality, high value-for-money services with good control and compliance with statutory obligations. Come join a friendly team and help us achieve our goals.

The role is part-time, and we understand how important it is to achieve a work life balance and we are able to offer flexibility with regard to working hours.

About you

With a degree or a diploma in Environmental Health or a Higher Certificate in Food Control, along with significant experience in food safety and health and safety regulation. You will be able to meet the competencies for authorised Food Officers in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice to carry out inspections in the full range of risk bands.

Able to deal confidently with a wide range of customers, including businesses and members of the public, you will interpret legislation and guidance to resolve complaints and/or provide guidance to customers.

Highly organised and able to prioritise your own workload, you will ensure deadlines are met and a high level of customer service is always provided.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and are unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over Sponsorship for any role
