We are looking for a practical, hands-on team member with good customer skills who can deliver the Council’s pest control service as well as undertaking various envirocrime and other duties.
About you:
You will have experience of pest control or similar work and ideally a track record of delivering services to vulnerable customers. You must be able to manage your own workload and operate independently while ensuring that you comply with the relevant guidance and legislation. You should also be ready to get involved in the full range of duties of the Environmental Health team, for example taxi licensing checks, fly tipping and waste enforcement and environmental monitoring.
About the role:
The primary function of this role is to undertake pest control treatments for our customers, who are mainly residents of the city. This requires both the practical skills to investigate rodent problems and resolve them, but also good customer skills. It is a hugely satisfying task, delivering an essential public health service within our community. The remainder of your time will be used in supporting the rest of the service in delivering various statutory duties. This includes enforcement, regulatory checks and routine monitoring of food, water, air and land.
About the team:
The Environmental Health Service is very wide-ranging; covering food safety, health and safety, private sector housing, nuisance and antisocial behaviour, air quality, contaminated land, licensing, community safety and emergency planning (amongst other things). The majority of this work is statutory (the Council has a legal duty to perform). We also deliver a paid-for pest control service to residents and businesses in the city. Pest Control is a professional activity, using integrated pest management techniques to achieve the control of pests while reducing the risk of harm to non-target species.
