Supporting senior management and their teams to deliver, monitor and continually improve the company's Environmental Management Systems and practices to maintain ISO 14001 accreditation, you will provide environmental advice to ensure compliance with legislation and the control and reduction of environmental impacts, relating to the engineering, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the electricity distribution network and related assets.

What you'll be doing

Providing specialist environmental support to the licence with responsibility for coordinating delivery of environmental and sustainability RIIO-ED2 commitments, ensuring processes and systems deliver environmental compliance and impact reduction/continuous improvement in our environmental performance, you will provide support to operational and support staff throughout the life cycle of work programmes from concept to commissioning, operation, maintenance and decommissioning activities, achieving compliance with statutory environmental requirements to enable the Licence Directorates to meet their Environmental commitments and obligations.

With responsibility for the co-ordination of environmental risks and mitigation, consultation with contractors, stakeholders and regulators, you will provide proactive advice regarding environmental controls, constraints and legislation specific to distribution Licence activities and their related environmental impacts.

As Environmental Specialist, you will also:

  • Manage RIIO-ED2 Environmental Commitments throughout their full lifecycle

  • Deliver outputs, incentive metrics and milestones in line with business targets

  • Effectively manage risks to achieving the requirements and mitigate the impact of issues that may emerge

  • Create, manage and monitor the ED2 Environmental Commitments programme

  • Manage a number of working groups with various internal stakeholders to track the commitments

What you'll bring

With in depth knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory guidance and standards, you will possess an Environmental Auditing qualification and hold previous experience in development, implementation, use and auditing of Management Systems (preferably environmental management systems) and ISO14001.

Understanding all environmental impacts in practice, and the application of environmental legislation to electricity networks, you will be able to inspect site operations and understand environmental risks and solutions.

Displaying strong influencing and verbal communication skills, you will possess excellent written communication skill and be confident dealing with full range of staff at all levels, either office or field based.

With sound planning and analysis skill to anticipate problems and plan solutions, you will hold experience collaborating with contractors, planning and delivering work programmes autonomously.

It would be advantageous to hold either a Postgraduate environmental qualification e.g. Diploma (desirable), be an Associate or hold full membership of IEMA or CEnv or a Lead Auditor Certificate (IEMA or equivalent).

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:
   

  • Degree in an Environmental discipline or equivalent experience

  • Qualification or equivalent experience in UK and devolved nations environmental legislation

  • Experience of certified management systems, ideally ISO14001 specifically

  • Environmental auditing experience, ideally supported by advanced environmental auditor certification

  • Experience of working within an Engineering, Infrastructure or Construction related environment          

  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Packages

  • Current valid driving licence

  • Requirement to travel within the licence area, plus occasionally beyond
