Key responsibilities
The Fairness and Equality Team plays a critical role at the centre of the Council, driving forward our strategic priorities through development of evidence-based policies which ensure that tackling inequality and promoting fairness are at the heart of everything we do.
The Fairness and Equality Officer will work across the team providing support for policy, equality, and participation and engagement functions. The Officer will manage projects and programmes that deliver on our strategic priorities.
The postholder will provide project management support to the Council’s Challenging Inequality Programme including ensuring strong governance that helps deliver the programme aims. The postholder will use their robust understanding of public policy and equalities to facilitate strategic thinking across the Council, identifying emerging policy developments and supporting colleagues to remain alert to long-term risks and opportunities.
Experience
- Experience of delivering equality projects and programmes.
- Project management experience and/or qualification.
- Experience of working directly with senior managers and/or stakeholders in a politicallyled environment.
- Experience of working with multiple stakeholders including in the community.
- Experience of strategy and policy development.
Skills
- Knowledge of current thinking and approaches to participation, engagement and community mobilisation.
- Ability to research, spot trends in policy and stay up to date with relevant developments.
- Knowledge of policy issues impacting local government.
- Knowledge of key issues around equalities, diversity and inclusion.
