The role

Public Health Policy and Programme Officer: Health protection and screening

The Public Health Division is recruiting a Policy and Programme Officer to support our Health Protection and Screening team on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a successful, established and well-resourced Public Health Division delivering on some of the most exciting, innovative Public Health interventions in a world class city.

You will support or lead core pieces of work, including the delivery of projects and reports, working alongside fellow colleagues to deliver high quality work that aims to improve health outcomes and increase our understanding of and tackle health inequalities.

Your programme areas will include projects that aim to diagnose cancer early, improving health outcomes and inequalities, along with service and Programme evaluation. You will be part of the response team for health protection emergencies and outbreaks and you will play a role in ensuring our preparedness and resilience to various kinds of incidents. You will be based within the Public Health Division and you will liaise with council and local NHS colleagues to help deliver overlapping health & wellbeing priorities.

Delivering on your responsibilities will require working in a fast paced and challenging environment, being accountable for delivery, a strong commitment to tackling health inequalities, along with a high degree of personal resilience.

About you:

We are looking for an individual with proven Public Health skills, excellent knowledge of health protection and who is keen to develop their career in Public Health.

You must possess expert core Public Health competencies including epidemiology, needs assessment, evaluation, using evidence to inform decision making, and strong partnership skills. Excellent communication skills are essential, including presentation and a high standard of written work. Additionally, you must have excellent knowledge of the domain of health protection, as well as a thorough understanding of health services and social care.
