Job description

This is an exciting time to join Sense Property, the Estates function of the national charity, Sense. We are looking to recruit a Estate Surveyor to provide property advice and guidance nationally for the optimum benefit of Sense in the following key areas; new property development, freehold and leasehold interested, break clauses, rent reviews, lease renewals, capital projects, disposals and dilapidations.
Sense supports over 3000 people with deafblindness and other complex communication disabilities, and have over 200 properties – day centres, residential accommodation, offices and charity shops – in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Under our recent strategy, our ambitions include increasing our support tenfold and significantly expanding our programmes.

Producing reports, recommendations and forecasts to enable Senior Managers and the Associate Director of Property, Environment and Procurement to make sound and timely business decisions, ensuring accurate and relevant information is maintained in the Sense estates database.
Building professional internal and external relationships with Senior Managers across Sense, Estates Management team, solicitors, property professionals and third parties to deliver the best service for Sense.
To lead on all Sense estate legal matters, working closely with solicitors in relation to all property related matters to include acquisitions, disposals, breaks, lease renewals, leases, licences, deeds of variation, dilapidations and other estates related matters.
To keep up to date with government advice, Health and Safety legislation and Sense’s environmental policy and to fully engage with colleagues and professional advisers for the implementation of both national and charity procedures, requirements and policies. Key skills and experience:
RICS Chartered Surveyor and/or degree in Estates Management.
Detailed knowledge of the role of property and estates in a large nationwide organisation.
Excellent understanding of property and estate issues.
Good understanding of relevant property legislation, policies and best practice.
Experience of working with external consultants including monitoring performance
Experience of developing, implementing, monitoring, and improving systems and processes to meet business needs.
Proficient in the use of using Microsoft Office applications and databases. About Sense
