Career teachers are currently looking to recruit a permanent Estates Manager for an Outstanding Secondary School based in East London.
Estates Manager
The Estates Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a long-term vision and strategy for effectively managing all aspects of the Trust's estate in alignment with educational priorities and governance requirements. This includes preparing and maintaining plans, budgets, policies, and procedures to optimise the condition, performance, compliance and sustainability of land and buildings across the estate. It also involves leading procurement activities, projects, maintenance programmes, risk management, data analysis and stakeholder reporting to continually drive improvement and ensure compliance.

Qualifications
- Trade, Building and Health and Safety qualification- e.g. CIOB, CITB, City & Guilds, NEOBSH - Essential
- GCSEs (C or above in Maths English and IT)
- Degree or equivalent
General Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Estate Management
- Develop and implement the Trust's vision and strategy for managing the estate to support educational priorities.
- Lead on preparing the estate asset management plan, implementation plan, and governance arrangements.
- Oversee resource planning and allocation to deliver on estate strategy and asset management plan.
- Lead reviews of estate documentation to ensure alignment with Trust and school needs, deliver value for money, and effectively prioritise expenditure.
- Engage Trust, Local Governing Bodies, and senior leaders on estate management, presenting analysis of estate data, priorities, and resources needed.
- Set policies, procedures and training programmes to drive effective, efficient and compliant estate management.
Planning and Organising Estate Resources
- Take responsibility for estate governance, risk management, and compliance.
- Contribute to annual budget planning process and forecast investment needs.
- Drive continual improvement in value for money from the estate.
- Develop and contribute to the school's procurement strategy for estate works, services and supplies.
- Lead on business continuity and emergency planning for all Trust sites.
Understanding and Managing Land and Buildings
- Maintain oversight of all legal interests in land and buildings comprising estate.
- Lead regular reviews of estate condition and suitability to inform strategic planning.
- Oversee and maintain collection and analysis of estate data to feed into asset management plan.
- Determine approach for capturing and maintaining accurate property records.
Health and Safety and Compliance
- Lead development of estate H&S policies and procedures.
- Ensure risks are promptly identified and mitigated.
- Oversee programmes to ensure full premises compliance with statutory standards.
- Clearly define and designate H&S responsibilities across the Trust and its schools
Maintaining the Estate
- Strategically plan maintenance activities based on up-to-date condition assessments.
- Align maintenance strategy with asset management plan and budget constraints.
- Ensure maintenance work is prioritised and delivered in timely, safe, and compliant manner.
Managing Estate Projects
- Develop project approval processes covering definition, appraisal, and prioritisation.
- Ensure all projects meet legal and budgetary requirements with minimal school disruption.
- Strategically oversee all projects to achieve intended outcomes within time and cost tolerances.
- Facilitate post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and continuous improvement.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
- Strong leadership and management skills and a proven track record of leading a large team.
- Knowledge and practical experience of Health and Safety
- Knowledge or experience of compliance with H&S at Work Act 1974 and the Management of H&S at Work Regulations 1999
- Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise and adhere to deadlines.
- Excellent administration skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Office packages including Word and Excel.
- Tendering and contract negotiations.
- Effectively manage staff across multiple sites and locations.
- Development of rolling capital programmes.
