The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of HM Treasury. We are a friendly and inclusive Group working on some of the most exciting issues of the day; we provide support to Ministers, through Ministerial offices. We act as Treasury's external face, through the Press Office and Communications team. We manage the department through supporting the Permanent Secretary, the Second Permanent Secretaries, the Treasury Board, and the Executive Management Board (EMB), and our ownership of Treasury governance structures.
Our Communications Team is responsible for all communications conducted by HM Treasury and its Ministers. It works closely with Ministers, special advisers and policy teams to communicate the full range of the Treasury’s work, through traditional and new media channels.
The team is fast-paced, encouraging and fun. We work highly collaboratively across the different aspects of communications (press, digital, events). In this high-profile role, you will have a large degree of ownership for your area. The team is a flexible resource and you will need be ready to support colleagues during busy periods as responsibilities can move around to reflect Government priorities.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to work in one of the busiest and high-profile communications teams in Whitehall! Here, you'll play a direct role in delivering external media events for Ministers. You'll receive an additional out-of-hours allowance, with the opportunity for travel within the UK and overseas.
Key accountabilities:
- Plan, co-ordinate and lead on high quality media Events and Visits for Ministers, including the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in order to deliver policy and communication objectives.
- Work in a team and individually to identify, recce and advance venues ahead of Ministerial visits, both in the UK and internationally.
- Line management responsibility for one Events and Media Officer
- Travel with the Chancellor of the Exchequer/Ministers to ensure that they are well supported and briefed, that logistics and media operations are efficiently implemented and risks mitigated.
- Work closely with Ministers, Special Advisors, Private Office and policy colleagues from within the Treasury and across government.
- Collaborate with key partners from a variety of sectors across industry to help support future visit opportunities.
- Support the Head of Events in developing a strategic programme of events that is well coordinated with Treasury and Ministerial policy priorities.
About you
Our successful candidate will have existing experience of events organisation and VIP visits. You’ll be able to establish effective relationships with colleagues. With strong time management and organisational skills, you can work independently to deliver to tight deadlines and take responsibility for the quality of your work, whilst keeping colleagues and partners updated on progress. Lastly, you’ll have a good working knowledge of government, public sector, media/journalism or corporate communications.
