Senior Health Care Assistant. Fixed rota. To start as soon as possible.
This role would suit someone seeking flexible working pattern. We are looking for one permanent shift per week on Mondays 9am to 6.30pm (£19/hr).
Option to cover bank shifts when other staff are on annual or sick leave.
We are looking for an experienced health care assistant to join a team of established carers to care and support a lovely lady in her own home.
Our client is 67 years old with primary progressive multiple sclerosis which has resulted in tetraplegia/paralysis and osteoporosis. This post would be an excellent opportunity for a dedicated carer who enjoys one-to-one care to directly influence and improve quality of life. The job would best suit someone who is cheerful, patient and experienced in providing solid emotional support as well as delivering the more practical aspects of the role. An interest and experience in the emotional and psychological complexities of chronic disease and disability would be invaluable.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to our client with multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and paralysis at her home to include hands-on care to deliver the daily routine which includes 3 fully double-up hoisted lifts per shift (9am/12.30midday/4pm), log rolls and manual positional adjustment - must therefore have up to date patient moving and handling confidence at level 2 or above. Postural care training is desirable but training can be given if needed.
- Working a fixed rota leading the shift together with a second HCA assisting you.
- Take responsibility for booking appointments and supporting her to them, monitoring health concerns and providing updates to various consultants, cascade the information to the rest of the staff team.
- Take responsibility for the delegated clinical tasks - bed-based physio exercise, passive cycling, LVR breathing therapy, Peristeen irrigation and dysphagia management.
- use of trauma-based care principles to manage anxiety and distress associated with loss of bodily autonomy, training with Tavistock and Portman hospital available if required.
- Complete documentation as required to meet the NHS funding requirements.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience at a senior level in a healthcare setting required including use of hoists
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Compassionate and caring attitude towards patients
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Requirements: Right to work and DBS will both be required during applicant screening process.
