Primary Purpose of the Role:

To Represent Thales and the allocated project with the customer/user community. The primary role of the CMST FSR is to provide proactive technical and logistical support directly of the end user and provide on site support to the IOS Office in Culdrose.

As part of the Thales Crowsnest Programme providing first-class in-service support to the Royal Navy, as they commence training for the Crowsnest Mission System to bring combat capability to the Merlin Mk2 Helicopters that support the UK's world class Aircraft Carriers, is key. Supported by a team of Experts back in Crawley, the FSR will be the first port of call for the RN in solving issues on the rig and giving guidance on technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Start-Up/Shutdown the device around the training day () (dependant on Morning or Evening shift). Ready for use.
  • Located at RNAS Culdrose, Helston, Cornwall.
  • Respond to technical queries, acting as a single point of contact for the User Community.
  • Log technical queries on the appropriate database as required.
  • Act as a two way conduit of information between the User/Customer and Thales
  • Advise progress on all ongoing tasked activities
  • Provide FRACAS / DRACAS on Customer raised faults / issues within defined Turnaround Times
    • Undertake preliminary investigation
    • Where within skillset/knowledge undertake the corrective action, with necessary guidance from SMEs where possible
  • Attend weekly coordination meetings with the MFT
  • Carry Out technical evaluations of new instructions, publications and procedures. Feedback into updates of these documents
  • Co-ordinate on base technical investigations, liaising with external agencies and other operating bases as required.
  • Liaise directly with the User/Customer with respect to technical schedule issues.
  • Be the locally recognised Subject Matter Expert for the allocated equipment.
  • Assist users to achieve the highest possible reliability and performance from the system/equipment.
  • Work with the user/maintainers to minimise wrong diagnosis and needless return of equipment /LRU's.
  • Generate reports as directed by Project
  • Adhere to relevant company and local Health and safety procedures and maintain vigilance within the workplace to ensure that the working environment remains safe at all times.
  • Keep track of device availability: crashes, failures, brown-outs, black-outs etc.
  • Provide routine maintenance on the device according to maintenance manuals, to minimise operational impacts and maximise availability
  • Provide prompt assistance to CMST operators regarding technical documentation, scenario generation facility (SGF) and technical operation of the CMST
  • Update Crawley with concerns/issues/positives noticed in Culdrose:
    • Provide information to support Monthly Progress reports and 6-monthly Programme Management Reviews (PMRs)
    • Provide Log files back to Crawley on a regular basis
    • Document local processes
  • Work with Work Package Managers to keep track of Spares holdings and their consumption
  • Manage spares: track holdings + consumption. Install spares where possible: contact Crawley for support if required

About you

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak technically at a low-level with the Customer and End User
  • Confidence with Software Deployment
  • Ability to take on hardware tasks (read HW diagrams, updates, replacements, investigations etc.)
  • Good interpersonal skills to build a positive relationship with the End User
  • Flexibility to work out of hours where necessary
  • Solid level of IT skills, for example being able to pull log files out of the different systems in the device.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with and inform Crawley on a regular basis
