About the Team
We are looking to recruit a Finance Apprentice which sits within the Public Spending Group of the Government Financial Reporting team. We are a friendly and encouraging team, that prides itself in developing professional technical expertise and working collaboratively with a wide range of partners.
We lead on a number of critical finance ministry functions including:
- Developing guidance and maintaining the integrity of the key financial management and reporting frameworks that underpin spending in central government.
- Producing major financial and statistical publications, including Public Expenditure Statistical Analysis and the Whole of Government Accounts.
- Providing advice to government departments and Treasury Spending Teams on complex or novel transactions.
As a team of 30, we provide exposure to a broad range of colleagues across the Government Finance Function. We work on areas of emerging policy and risk management within government. We are a dynamic team, that fully supports learning, development and growth.
About the Job
In this role, you will:
- Develop your knowledge of government budgeting, the supply and spending framework, and financial reporting guidance.
- Contribute to the development of financial reporting policy and HMT’s role as the standard setter for government accounting.
- Support the implementation of the recommendations of the Government Financial Reporting Review.
- Provide support to organisations across government in the laying of annual reports and accounts, and the implementation of changes to financial reporting requirements.
- Build relationships with colleagues within the Treasury and partners across government, working collaboratively to support continual improvement in financial reporting for the public sector.
As a Finance Apprentice in the Treasury, you will complete a widely recognised and respected qualification whilst gaining valuable experience at the heart of government. As you gain technical knowledge, you will have the opportunity to apply it to real financial reporting challenges facing the public sector.
About You
The successful candidate will undertake a Level 4 Professional Accounting / Taxation apprenticeship as part of this role, and therefore you will need to be eligible for this to be considered for the post.
You will also be required to evidence the following qualifications:
Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent qualification) Equivalent of Level 2 Maths and English (GCSE Grade C/4 or above)
You will be able to demonstrate the ability to weigh up evidence and arrive at a recommendation. Have the ability to contribute to the delivery of projects, working with others where needed to ensure targets are met, and understand how your contribution supports your team to deliver its objectives.
