Be our Finance Director.
The challenge
The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for regulating nuclear site health and safety, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and the transport of radioactive materials. It’s a fast-moving world that’s undergoing expansion and as Finance Director and Executive member of the Board, you’ll have a remarkable opportunity to influence at the highest level.
The role
It’s an exciting time for the organisation as we complete delivery of our 2025 strategy and prepare a new strategy for the next decade. There’s new investments, new tech, new skills, and new opportunities. Join us, and you’ll be part of our Executive and Senior Leadership Team, playing your part in progress and providing strategic direction. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE), you’ll operate at Board level, managing the Finance Directorate. Whether it’s Procurement, or Estates, you’ll provide outstanding leadership across a broad portfolio. At the same time, you’ll ensure financial probity, governance, accountability, and control throughout the organisation, ensuring ONR is a modern, transparent regulator.
You’ll also be perfectly placed to help lead our ‘One ONR’ culture, which inspires staff to be their best and deliver strategic objectives. A champion of our values, you’ll lead by example, while assisting your peers. Your advice and guidance will be essential to the organisation as you deal with senior colleagues across ONR and with external stakeholders. Meanwhile, you’ll be leading projects, overseeing financial processes, and making decisions that count.
The person
Capable and credible, you’ll bring professional qualifications, for example, CCAB or an internationally recognised equivalent. You’ll also have a relevant postgraduate degree (or equivalent). Along with these academic credentials, you’ll have proven experience: you’ve led finance functions before. With this background, you’ll be adept at accountancy, but also at building relationships.
An excellent communicator, you can explain complex financial matters to non Finance stakeholders and connect with people at all levels. Whether you’re managing finance reporting or steering people through change, you’ll be an authentic, inspiring leader, with the appetite to take on a wider portfolio within the corporate services arena.
The rewards
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £110,000. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
