Finance Director - Life Sciences

Altum Consulting are thrilled to bring a Finance Director role to market with a highly exciting early-stage Life Sciences start-up who are growing on the back of investment reached last year. As the firm continues their mission and looks to expand and scale, this is a key hire that will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of the organisation. This will be a high-impact role and would require someone who is consultative, is technically and analytically strong, and understands the pain points that a business like this may face. This role will require someone who is comfortable wearing many different hats and getting involved in a range of financial management decisions, from creating the infrastructure and getting involved in the detail, to strategic decision making, business partnering and team leadership.

This role provides an exciting and unique opportunity to own the Finance function from day one and to mould/grow a first class finance team in due course. This role will be working directly with the founders and the c-suite and will be relied upon heavily to advise senior non-finance stakeholders as the business continues growing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic financial leadership to the organisation, developing and implementing financial plans and policies to support our growth trajectory.
• Drive financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes. Analyse financial data to provide insights and recommendations for decision-making, cost optimisation, and revenue enhancement.
• Lead fundraising efforts, which may include securing venture capital, grants, and partnerships. Manage capital allocation and ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
• Build and nurture a high-performing finance team by recruiting, training, and mentoring finance professionals. Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the company's strategic direction. Evaluate opportunities for growth, mergers and acquisitions, and new market entry. Provide financial guidance to support decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, reporting requirements, and industry standards. Mitigate financial risks through proactive measures and monitoring.
• Oversee financial reporting and analysis, including overseeing and liaising with any outsourced providers
• Manage and optimise the company's cash flow, including cash reserves, investments, and liquidity.

Ideally the successful candidate will:

• Be professionally qualified with a track record of financial leadership in a Life Sciences or start-up environment
• Have strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to mentor and develop finance professionals
• Have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with key stakeholders
