The Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit a Finance Manager on a permanent, full-time basis. The Diocese of Winchester (WDBF) and the Diocese of Portsmouth (PDBF) support the Ministry in, and the mission of, Church of England parishes in Winchester and Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
Reporting into, and working closely with, the Financial Controllers of both dioceses, you will take responsibility for financial management and reporting, and a supporting role in financial planning for both dioceses. The role will work alongside the Finance Officer who has oversight of the processes and systems for ensuring accurate maintenance of records and transactions. The post holder will line manage three team members who undertake financial processes across both dioceses.
In this Finance Manager role, you will:
- Prepare, create, and offer initial analysis for all financial management reports and their supporting narrative and commentary as required by WDBF and PDBF
- Provide line management and leadership for three direct reports, supporting each of them in personal and professional development.
- Provide support in financial planning, annual accounts and audit for WDBF, PDBF and connected companies and charities.
- Support Financial Controllers with business partnering, strengthening and assisting departments across both dioceses with financial awareness.
- Prepare diocesan and departmental monthly management accounts and other financial reports as requested by Financial Controllers.
- Support Financial Controllers with insight and analysis of business performance alongside numerical reports and dashboards/KPIs, drafting narrative to support financial analysis.
- Design and prepare cashflow reports on a monthly basis and restricted fund reports on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare and co-lead the audit with Financial Controllers, serving as the initial point of contact for queries from auditors during the respective audits and supporting the finance team with preparations and responses in line with audit timetable.

The successful candidate will have:
- Qualified with a recognised professional finance qualification is desirable, part-qualified is essential (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent). Support may be offered to continue in professional studies for part qualified individuals.
- Operated successfully in a finance role with some experience at a managerial level.
- Knowledge and experience of Charity finance accounting principles and requirements is desirable.
- Experience of managing or supervising people and delivering through a team.
- Experience and proven ability to communicate financial information with non-finance colleagues.
- Experience and understanding of diocesan finance is desirable.
- Experience in the preparation and presentation of financial management reports including cashflow, financial performance, balance sheet and restricted funds analysis.
