Temporary Finance Operations Clerk / Admin

Pay Rate: £12.95 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 3 months

A Finance Operations Clerk is required to join a busy team and assist in the work of the Joint (Police & Fire) Finance Department in maintaining a high level of service for Police and Fire with respect to financial transactional processing, reconciliation and maintenance. A good knowledge of the accounts payable and accounts receivable function are essential for this role.
Key responsibilities:
Prepare supplier invoices for payment, including liaison with the wider Finance Team to ensure the accuracy of coding, matching and inputting.
Ensure that goods have been appropriately receipted and maintain dialogue with end users to ensure payment of invoices within approved supplier terms.
Provide information for the preparation of VAT submissions, including the accurate input of CIS specific costs.
Complete supplier statement reconciliations and to respond to queries regarding payments, remittances and general queries.
Assist in preparation of weekly and ad hoc BACS payments.
Ensure the accuracy of the sales invoices and credit notes within the Financial System, and respond to customer queries.
Issue period statements to customers of debtor invoices and to assist in the initial stages of debt collection.
Assist with the administration of the Force Credit Cards, including customer and bank liaison.
Provide support across all Accounts Payable/Receivable, banking, general administration and procurement functions as required.
Provide support in the closedown of accounts as appropriate.

Qualifications:
Educated to at least GCSE standard, with at least level 4 (or C) in Maths and English or to be able to demonstrate the ability to the above level through work experience.
Experience:
Experience of a computerised Finance systems, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
A good knowledge and experience of the accounts payable and accounts receivable function essential.
Experience of working in a customer service environment.
Understanding of Data Protection legislation.
Experience of using the Unit4/Agresso finance system desirable.
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to work well within a team.
Good communication skills, both internally and externally to the organisation.
Ability to manage own workload and deadlines.
Ability to use initiative to deal with problems and enquiries either face to face or through other communication methods.
Ability to take personal responsibility for ensuring the completion of role responsibilities, whilst displaying motivation, initiative and integrity.
Ability to produce well-structured reports and summaries desirable.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
