What you will be doing

As Financial Controller of our BDUK contracts, you'll hold a pivotal role in steering financial operation for a fast past, emerging new Business Unit. You’ll be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) with the ability to confidently deal with complex stakeholder groups and executive/senior team members. Responsibilities include;

• Helping to develop an -in-depth reporting structure based on CAPEX spend against individual network ‘asset’
• Producing and scrutinising financial reports on project spend and adherence to budget
• Optimising financial performance, and offering strategic financial counsel to drive project success
• Ensuring regulatory compliance, in line with government gap funding requirements.

This role demands a blend of technical proficiency, leadership, and business acumen.

Key Responsibilities

• Working with internal project teams, third party suppliers, and the client across different areas to help evaluate and articulate CAPEX, Contract performance and budget variance
• Providing performance insight and support, challenging senior stakeholders to drive optimisation of costs and delivery
• Leading on the overall budget and forecasting process, aligning with the commercial team and wider organisation, and identifying risks and opportunities across the business unit
• Leading on finance project plans, seeing them through to completion and presenting to senior stakeholders ensuring Connexin’s successful delivery of BDUK contracts
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to finance and commercial team members
• Identifying and leading on opportunities for automation and improvements.

Essential skills and competencies

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis and cost / project accounting techniques
• Proficiency in financial planning, analysis, and enterprise financial systems
• Proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis tools
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess project performance, monitor metrics, and provide data-driven insights
• Familiarity with project management software / tools for planning, tracking, and reporting project progress.
• Familiarity with Quantity Surveying methodology and sub-contract commercial management
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, integrity, and compliance
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Essential Experience

• 10 years' experience as Financial Controller or similar in technology-driven environments
• Familiarity with governance frameworks and decision-making processes. Previous experience of working with government / public sector contracts preferred
• Prior experience in growth-oriented or start-up environments desirable.

Essential Qualifications

• Educated to degree level in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
• ACA/CIMA/ACCA

Desirable Qualifications

• A master's degree or relevant professional certification is preferred.
• Certification in project management, such as PMP or PRINCE2 is highly desirable.
