You will be working in Saga’s largest finance team within our Insurance Community. This technical finance team manage the accounts receivables and full reporting of transactions for over 1.5 million customers across our main insurance products: Home and Motor.
Working as our dedicated Reporting Lead for this area you will fully own the balance sheet ledger for SAGA in-house underwriter, Acromas Insurance Company Limited (AICL).
You will be responsible for the accuracy of the balance sheet and Financial Reporting, working closely with the R2R team and rest of the FR&C team.
Your role will be pivotal to producing reliable financial information for all AICL internal and external Financial Reporting requirements, including but not limited to; preparation of the statutory financial statements, oversight and management of the balance sheet and liaising with both internal and external auditors.
You’ll be working closely with the rest of the FR&C team, supporting the continuous improvement of processes and quality of the financial information across Saga Insurance.
** Remote working with a hybrid approach, you will be required to visit our Ashford, Kent hub once a week – typically a Wednesday. You will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance to undertake this role.
Main Responsibilities
Our Financial Reporting Lead will report directly to the Financial Controller and have oversight of the Record 2 Reporting team and Accounts Receivable team. You will be fully accountable for the following areas;
Lead the month end process, owning the creation of the monthly balance sheet pack, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and monitoring progress of associated actions. Preparation of annual statutory accounts, while liaising with company auditors to facilitate and monitor responses for the audit plan. Support the Financial Controller in the maintenance of a robust control environment and the enhancement and testing of the financial control framework. Become the lead contact for external audit and facilitate the provision of information as required. Build excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including our colleagues across finance, audit and actuarial teams. Show curiosity to continually review and improve the control and process environment of the business. Support system development, implementation and change to deliver process improvement and enhanced management reporting. You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience;
- Hold a professional qualification in accountancy or be QBE having gained the experience in specifically Insurance Financial Reporting. Competence in external Financial Reporting, including preparation of statutory accounts.
- Demonstrate excellent writing skills with the ability to consider how external parties will view the results and adapt the narrative accordingly.
- Have a flair for financial systems and process efficiency, particularly MS Excel skills.
- Exceptionally high attention to detail, with the ability to review (both themselves and peers) and feedback accordingly.
- Curious and proactive – seeking solutions and deeper understanding of the ‘why’ and ‘how’ Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure whilst balancing multiple deliverables and priorities.
- Commercially aware with excellent stakeholder management skills.
Desirable;
- Previously worked in a Financial Reporting role within the insurance industry or a heavily regulated organisation. Have working knowledge of Workday or IBM Planning Analytics - TM1.
