About the role

The Risk Management Services (RMS) team at NFU Mutual is the largest Health and Safety (H&S) Risk Management Consultancy in the UK, working for a large and varied customer base. As part of our RMS team, this role supports our H&S Consultants with important advice and guidance on Fire and Health & Safety risks.


As a Fire andHealth & Safety Technical Specialist you’ll support and lead in creating, implementing, and advising on technical standards relating to Fire and Health & Safety and you’ll use your expertise in supporting the delivery and development of risk management products and services.


This will include ensuring that all products and services are compliant with Fire Safety and Health & Safety regulations and will involve researching and investigating current and emerging market practices to support RMS to be a market leader in its field. Your technical skills will help influence the wider team and will ensure that they are well-versed in the relevant regulations to provide the best possible advice to our customers with a focus on the more complex areas of Fire and Health & Safety.


You'll be a subject matter expert in the field of Fire Safety, which will enable you to lead on key projects within this technical field. Your expertise will enable you to deliver and source training for our teams, write engaging guidance documents for RMS, our customers, and others within the NFU Mutual network, and be a go-to person for all things Fire and Health & Safety, with a focus on the more complex areas in these fields.


You’ll also shadow H&S consultants during customer visits to provide technical support and complete peer reviews and audits on Fire Risk Assessments and H&S survey reports, to ensure high standards are met for our customers.

About you

As an experienced Fire andHealth & Safety Technical Specialist, you will bring detailed knowledge of Fire Safety regulations as well as a broad range of Health & Safety knowledge. As a highly motivated individual you will influence the wider team and provide support and guidance on the most recent changes in legislation and industry best practice, especially related to complex areas of Fire Safety. You understand that to be successful in your role you must proactively interpret Fire safety and Health & Safety documentation and support the H&S Consultants to provide the right technical advice.


To join our team, you must also have:



  • Member level of a Fire Safety related professional body, such as the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE) or the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (MIFSM), and/ or Chartered member of the Institution of Occupation Safety and Health (CMIOSH) (or actively working towards it, with a view to achieving this within 1 year).

  • Fire Safety and Health and Safety surveying experience with a breadth and depth of technical knowledge of both, including significant and complex risks, gained through practical experience

  • 3rd Party qualified risk assessor registered, as per FRA Competency Council (Desired)

  • Aptitude for influencing and managing stakeholders at all levels

  • Full and clean driving licence.
