Job description

• To maintain accurate records of Fire Safety training
• Design, develop, prepare and deliver a wide range of Fire Safety training to all staff throughout the organisation specific to their individual need and departmental requirements, in the with the Trusts Training needs Analysis
• Record attendees, feedback information and outcomes on the NBT systems
• Organise training dates, times and locations with all wards / departments to ensure training is delivered to all staff
• Where necessary, support wards / departments with the execution of Fire Safety drills
• To provide Fire Safety advice on training as directed by the Fire Safety manager
• To ensure Local Fire Evacuation procedures are in place and drills are being conducted to test these
• To resolve Fire Safety non-compliance issues and promote high standards related to Fire Safety training.

• The post holder must remain up to date in all aspects of Fire Safety legislation.
The post holder to evidence -
• Previous experience in Fire Safety
• Previous experience of teaching and training
• At least 2 years’ experience in a relevant role
• Ability to learn new systems and processes and conduct effective training sessions
• Ability to use own initiative and prioritise own workload and diary to plan tasks, and prioritise work and training
• Knowledge of NHS England FIRECODE Healthcare Fire Safety, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant Fire Safety legislation
• Evidence of a good standard of literacy/English language skills
• Demonstrate confidence in communicating/presenting to groups/teams
• Understanding of Hazards in Healthcare e.g., medical gases
• Fire risk management experience
Fire Safety qualification (NEBOSH Fire Safety certificate or equivalent)
• Certificate in Training Practice or extensive experience of preparing and delivering training
• Membership of the National association of Healthcare Fire Officers or other body
• Experience in liaising with the Fire Authorities
• An understanding of the relevant legislation and statutory requirements
• Good Presentation and communications skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• A commitment to Fire Safety
Physical
• The post is office-based but the postholder is expected to spend a large part of the day accessing all parts of the organisations premises delivering training in a variety of training rooms or within the work environment suitable for the staff / training
• Lifting of training equipment and other various items to conduct all aspects of the role
• There is a need to travel to different sites as the organisation has a number of satellite premises
• As a DSE user, the postholder will use computer equipment for lengthy periods of time each working day.

• Responsible for developing Fire Safety training sessions for all staff, full time, part time including volunteers etc
• Prepare and deliver training presentations in line with the Trusts Training Needs Analysis and Matrix including Fire Warden, Awareness, Evacuation, Response and drill training along with other relevant courses
• Provide specialist training to staff where patient evacuation plans and PEEPs are needed to enable safe evacuation
• Visit all NBT premises and satellite sites to deliver training
• Ensure training content is relevant and up to date
• Train appropriate staff in the safe use of firefighting equipment, emergency medical gas shutdown and the deployment / use of evacuation equipment where required
• Jointly work with the local managers and the EPPR Team to provide realistic scenario training (fire drills and tabletop exercises) to test fire, contingency planning and resilience arrangements
• Ensure all relevant training is conducted in accordance with training guidance in FIRECODE HTM 05-01 ' Managing Healthcare Fire safety', the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Health & Safety at Work Act and associated legislation
• Work proactively with the Fire Safety Manager and Senior Managers to plan complex activities or programmes such as fire drills, tabletop evacuations exercises and building evacuations. This will require the formulation and adjustment of strategies across the organisation
• Deliver presentations in a clear and concise manner in both formal and informal training settings in order to ensure that the key points are clearly understood by the participants
• Have empathy and good communication skills
• Information communicated may be contentious in nature – e.g., the requirement for an area to change an established way of working in order to comply with Fire Safety guidance. In such situations the post holder will be expected to have the communication skills to work through the issues in a supportive way and achieve a positive outcome.
• Undertake daily administration duties including confident use of computers, including competent use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database and other software packages as required.
• Use initiative to prioritise own workload, exercising discretion as to the degree of urgency, importance and confidentiality
• The role will require occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances as a result of reading incident reports, participating in emergency evacuations drills and ensuring the organisation is resilient in the event of emergencies.
