Job Title: First Team Head ChefDepartment: Catering

Location: Training Ground

Line Manager: First Team Manager

Salary: DOE

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Contract Length: Permanent

Summary and Main Purpose

The Head Chef will be responsible for leading the clubs catering and nutrition needs throughout the training week. This role is expected to optimise the quality of food provision the players/staff receive on a training day. The Head Chef is expected to have an excellent knowledge of nutrition strategies for elite athletes as well as the ability to plan and create menus and manage budgets. The role also requires co-ordination and management of all food suppliers to ensure not only do we receive the optimal food product but also stay within the budget constraints. The Head Chef is expected to have excellent leadership qualities to drive professional standards and ensure job fulfilment of the catering department staff. The Head Chef should also establish and maintain an effective professional network that includes, but is not limited to, university links/ catering colleges/ local suppliers.

Key Tasks / Accountabilities:

1. To ensure the effective and professional delivery of all the food provision at the training ground on all training days throughout the season. This is to include breakfast and lunch.

2. To ensure a well-balanced and varied menu choice is delivered within the nutritional specifications of the players.

3. To liaise and create relationships with external suppliers.

4. To lead on the weekly plan and management/delivery of food supplies.

5. To lead and maintain good budget planning/forecasting.

6. To manage the First Team catering budget as set out by the club.

7. To manage the catering department and create roles/responsibilities for the ‘assistant chef’.

8. To drive the standards of good food hygiene.

9. To be an effective manager of the catering department with special reference to individual man management of the department staff.

10. To act, at all times, in a manner appropriate to a representative of Rotherham United FC.

11. To ensure the quality of the food served is always of an excellent standard.

Requirements

Level 3 or above advanced food safety

Undergraduate degree in catering related field

Diploma in related field Minimum of 10 years’ experience in full-time catering

Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in elite sport catering

Excellent understanding of nutritional demands of an elite athlete

Demonstrate an excellent understand and need for health and safety standards

Excellent food hygiene standards

Personal Skills / Qualities

Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

Management skills to manage a catering department

Set and maintain high standards of work performance and deliver quality consistently and effectively

Establish and maintain relationships with external suppliers

Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage demands and deadlines whilst functioning in a fast moving environment

Holds a full current and clean up to date driving licence

Proactive and engaging style with a winning attitude and can-do approach

Flexible approach and attitude to working hours

Good listener

Have an altruistic demeanour cognisant of others emotions
