Job description

The Natural Resources Department has vacancies for Compliance Fisheries Observer positions for one year in the first instance. Observers are required to spend periods of up to ten weeks at a time at sea to monitor vessel compliance with current Fisheries legislation, relevant regulations and fishing licence conditions as set annually by the Director and play a critical role in the conservation and management of fisheries resources by gathering data essential to the sustainability of the Falkland Islands fisheries resources.

The successful applicant will be required to hold a minimum of 3 years’ at sea observer experience and ideally experience as a Fisheries Observer, Fisheries Enforcement Officer, Marine Officer or Inspector. The successful candidate will also require a Personal Survival Training certificate or equivalent.

We are looking for an individual who is motivated, dynamic and independent. The applicant must be able to remain professional, impartial and diligent in the execution of their duties.

The Package

  • Starting Salary - £33,435 up to £38,548 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £44,234.
  • Eligibility for a 15% gratuity, payable on successful completion of the contract
  • Flights at the beginning and end of the contract
  • 30 days Annual Leave
  • Time off in lieu for weekends and public holidays spent at sea
  • Sea going allowance paid at the rate of £47.85 per night at sea
  • Shared accommodation to rent when on land
