Job overview
This post will be based in the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN), Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (“the NCA”). MCCN serves a large population of over 3 million people and has a full complement of neurological subspecialties. There are around 45 full or part time neurologists serving the conurbation.
Main duties of the job
This post is offered as part of the Clinical Research Fellow Programme at MCCN. This has been running for over a decade and has seen budding clinical academics complete PhDs in movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, metabolic disorders, and epilepsy.
You will work as part of a team on an MRC-funded research project investigating the cause of Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (3PD), focussing on movement perception. This project aims to test hypotheses regarding changes in perceptual processing of information about movement of the self and other parts of the environment in a patient group with a Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Specifically we will focus on the FND subtype with 3PD. Common symptoms of 3PD include dizziness and/or a feeling that the environment is unstable.
