We have a fantastic opportunity for a Footwear Assistant / Administration Assistant at Lancashire Constabulary. This is a full-time temporary role for the next 5 - 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
What is the role?
Lancashire Constabulary are looking for a Footwear Assistant / Administration Assistant to maximise the effectiveness of Forensic Evidence. To provide a Data Management service to the National Footwear Reference Collection.
What are your responsibilities?
- Filing / Case File weeding / archiving.
- Preparing cases / forensic exhibits for return
- Updating spreadsheets with case results.
- Support with researching and collating intelligence information from multiple internal systemsPagination / administration of case files
- In addition, the role may will include (as appropriate):
- Taking biometric samples from people (DNA & fingerprints). This will involve interaction with people and may involve manipulation of persons hands to produce a good set of elimination fingerprints.
- Chemical preparation / Lab maintenance
- Research of footwear mark pattern / codes / images
- Pattern coding of Footwear marks (subject to aptitude)
- Promote and comply with Lancashire Constabulary's policies on equal opportunities and Health and Safety both in the delivery of service and the treatment of others.
- Be responsible for improving your performance by participating in the Personal Development Review process (PDR) with your manager.
- Contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Undertake any general/clerical admin duties as and when required.
- Record marks received from police forces in England and Wales onto a footprint database.
- Maintain and update the footprint database.
- Provide forensic advice in areas where appropriate experience/knowledge has been gained.
- Liaise with manufacturers to maintain current record of all makes and designs of footwear, updating records as required.
- To provide a quality service to improve primary detections through scientific means in line with force policies, strategies and home Office policies and initiatives.
What skills do you Need?
- Must have previous Footwear Assistant / Administration Assistant experience.
- Excellent People skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and senior managers.
- Strong IT Skills, as you will be using word and excel packages alongside internal systems.
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ideally Good Knowledge of Footwear, and be able to do extensive research to get good results.
- Full Police Vetting will be required, prior to starting the position
