We are looking for a dynamic self-starter who is passionate about forensic chemistry and wants to start a career as a forensic scientist and expert witness specialising in alcohol, drugs and toxicology evidence.
The position on offer is full time, based at our office in Durham and comes with on-the-job training that will be tailored to need and experience. Duties will include:
- Communicating directly with customers to establish requirements and provide estimates
- Devising investigation and examination strategies
- Undertaking Alcohol Technical Defence calculations
- Examining seizures and records of suspected controlled drugs
- Facilitating the analysis of drugs and body fluids
- Analytical data pack reviews arising from toxicological analyses
- Travelling UK wide, and on occasion further afield, to derive or review scientific evidence
- Preparing written reports which are accurate and easy to understand
- Reviewing the findings and reports of colleagues
- Advising Counsel, preparing joint expert statements and presenting evidence at Court
- Assisting in progressing towards ISO 17025 accreditation
- Contributing to wider company practices, such as auditing and test witnessing
To be considered for this role you will likely have a likely have a degree with a chemistry, toxicology or pharmacology focus, be organised and diligent, self-motivated, organised, and able to take responsibility for your own workload. You will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be a critical thinker and have good attention to detail. The ability to work efficiently and effectively, irrespective of deadline, is essential.
Previous experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
The standard working week for a full time employee is 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday with hours to be agreed between 08:00 and 17:30.Travel throughout the UK, Republic of Ireland and occasionally further afield is to be expected; flexibility will be required to accommodate this.
A full UK driving licence is required.
