Job description

When things are good, but could be better, we should feel able to Speak confidently and raise a suggestion for improvement. Freedom to Speak up Guardians provide that direction to support teams and individuals to Speak Up safely
We are looking for a Freedom to Speak up Lead Guardian to join our People and Culture Directorate and Speak up Safely Guardians. Working alongside the Assistant Director of Culture, Inclusion and Wellbeing, you will be instrumental in implementing the Trust wide vision and action plan for the Freedom to Speak Up national policy. You will support the delivery of a psychologically safe and inclusive Speak Up culture within the Trust
Experience as a Freedom to Speak up Guardian or of managing complex employee relations/complaints with a high level of knowledge about the FTSU process is essential for this role
Building excellent relationships with employees and volunteers alike, you will have the ability to deal with potentially challenging, complex situations of a sensitive nature. You will be a confident communicator with excellent people skills, with the ability to show empathy, reassurance and appreciation to those raising concerns.
Job Summary :
Develop and deliver a strategy to empower and encourage staff to Speak Up safely, developing local policy and mechanisms allowing for staff to Speak Up safely and in confidence.
Develop strong and open working relationship with the Trust Board, having direct access to Trust Leaders as required. Operate independently of the Executive Team, providing challenge to senior members of staff, and reporting to the Board and externally as required.
Implementation of the Trust wide strategic vision and long-term action plan for Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) across the Trust. Manage and deliver the FTSU Service and Team.
Develop a Trust Network of FTSU Champions and develop a framework to deliver this across the Trust.
The ability to Speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job Purpose
The Freedom to Speak Up Lead Guardian is the lead role in the delivery of the Trust’s FTSU service supported by the wider FTSU team in achieving the following outcomes:
A positive culture of speaking up is instilled throughout the organisation with speaking up becoming business as usual.
All colleagues are aware of the processes for speaking up and how to raise a concern. Supported appropriately when they Speak Up or support others who are speaking up.
Action is taken to ensure that managers follow up concerns.
That the Trust learns from concerns raised and improvements are made as a result.
That the Trust is effectively aligned with the National Freedom to Speak Up processes and best practice guidance.
That the Trust Board is fully informed of FTSU concerns raised and emerging themes.
