Looking for a Tech4Good role where you can use your skills to help nature and the planet? The NBN Trust is the UK charity dedicated to “making data work for nature”. We’re a wildlife charity, tech charity and people charity rolled into one! We’re seeking a Full Stack Developer to join our Development Team. You’ll be working with colleagues on the NBN Atlas – the UK biodiversity data portal – which is a valued source of information for the entire UK conservation network.
This is an exciting time to be involved in biodiversity data. New global and national targets for tackling the nature crisis will only work if they’re supported by sound evidence. Which is where we come in.
The NBN Atlas brings together wildlife data from 170 nature organisations across the UK and makes it accessible to all. It’s the UK’s largest source of wildlife data, providing the evidence that’s needed to plan, achieve and measure nature’s recovery. The NBN Atlas is also the UK link to the global biodiversity data portal, GBIF, so we’re part of a worldwide network too.
But there’s much more to do! As we near the completion of a major upgrade of the NBN Atlas, we’re planning an ambitious programme of enhancements to help us have an even greater impact for nature.
In this role you would report to our Lead Developer, and your key responsibilities would be:
- Implementing a programme of enhancements and improvements to the NBN Atlas
- Improving the NBN Atlas code base.
- Supporting and collaborating with the wider NBN Trust team in line with our team values.
You’ll need Full Stack coding skills and experience as follows:
- Object Oriented Programming
- MVC frameworks (ideally Java EE/Spring/Grails but would consider .NET)
- Rest Web Services
- ORM such as Hibernate
- Working knowledge of Linux
- MySQL or PostgreSQL
- JavaScript, jQuery, CSS
You’ll also need to be someone who’s passionate a making a difference, enjoys being part of a team and has excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills. Applicants must be UK-based and eligible to work in the UK.
We can offer you:
- A meaningful role developing your skills and making a genuine difference for nature.
- Your place in a small, friendly and mutually supportive team.
- Flexible, fully remote working with occasional travel. 28 days leave per annum.
- Learning about nature conservation and the hundreds of organisations we work with.
The NBN Trust is an equal opportunities employer and we’re striving to create a diverse and inclusive team. Please email us at: hr@nbn.org.uk to arrange an introductory call with our Lead Developer.
We aim for the entire process – from when you first get in touch, to the formal interview – to take no more than 10 working days.
