37.5 hours a week to be worked Tuesday - Saturday. Shifts include 8am-4.30 or 11.30am-8pm shifts
The Candidate will have:
Level 2 qualification in an animal discipline or equivalent experience
Minimum of 1 year proven experience in animal care.
Excellent applied knowledge of canine/ feline behaviour
PURPOSE OF POST: To provide and maintain the highest standard of animal welfare to all animals at the centre and customer service to potential adopters and the general public. To assist the ACS with the day-to-day smooth running of the kennels/cattery ensuring a clean, clutter free and safe environment.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
i. Day to day care of cats, dogs, to include cleaning of accommodation, grooming, feeding, exercise and administration of medication as required.
ii. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness to the animal accommodation, food preparation, laundry, storage, staff facilities including toilets and outside and other areas and ensure buildings/exercise areas are secure at all times.
iii. To carry out health checks on animals, reporting any concerns to ACS or in their absence, Animal Centre Manager.
iv. Implement the animal Behaviour Plan, observe and report any behavioural changes of the animals to the Supervisor, Animal behaviour advisor or AOM.
v. Assist with carrying out on-going assessments for all animals at the Centre under the direction of the Animal Behaviour Adviser, Supervisor or AOM.
vi. Work collaboratively with other ACAs and support Volunteers and Work Experience students undertake their tasks.
vii. Advise adopters allocated to you, on animal care and answer any queries and assist with the matching of animals to adopters homes.
viii. Carry out allocated, pre-adoption home visits and respond to post adoption queries.
ix. To keep animal records accurate on Shelter Manager and other systems, including admission, rehoming, behaviour, financial and veterinary information, ensuring the information is up-to-date and compliant with GDPR guidelines.
x. Work to Centre protocols to maintain high standards of presentation throughout the centre.
xi. Provide reception cover and admin duties as required.
xii. Be responsible for their own health and safety.
xiii. To undertake any other duties required by AOM OR ACM which may include:
i. Driving animals to the vet.
ii. Assisting with education visits.
iii. Assisting with animal promotional initiatives.
iv. Fundraising events undertaken by the Centre
