Job description

Contract: 12-month, full time, contract with the view of extension or possibility of permanent
Salary: £100k with benefits
Interview Date: TBC

As Europe’s largest independent conservation charity, fundraising at the National Trust is essential, not only in generating funds for our work, but also raising awareness and inspiring people to support us.

As Fundraising Director, you will be responsible for the Trust’s second largest income stream, manage the full portfolio of fundraising from legacy development and administration through to Public Giving and everything in between and importantly you will lead and inspire a highly engaged and passionate fundraising team.

It’s a rare opportunity to play a part in a charity which is about to embark on a new strategy in a period of growth. This is a role which needs someone who can continue the work that’s already been started and can do it with care, expertise, and commitment.

What it's like to work here:We’re for everyone, and we really mean it.

We’re ambitious, we’re big, we talk about scones (a lot) and we care for each other and everyone. We also want to make a significant impact, we’re competitive (in the right places) and we want to generate funds to continue to support nature, beauty, and history. We’re here forever. Literally. So, we need people who want to be good ancestors. We love what we do, and we work hard to do it well. We’re the National Trust.

Our gorgeous Head Office in Swindon will be your contractual location, you will need to be there for meetings and as most of your team are based there, it’s important you are too. At other times, though, you can choose your base of operations, which includes our London office. You will be expected to spend 40–60% of your working week at a National Trust site. During the interview, this will be covered in greater detail.

What you'll be doing:As the Fundraising Director, you will hold one of our most significant and prominent positions. You will need to be confident in leading a large, internal transformation programme for fundraising as well as comfortable interacting with donors and collaborating to develop and deliver fresh approaches to fundraising. You must have a strong understanding across the spectrum of fundraising strategies and be a highly skilled fundraising specialist. We need someone to come in to pick up and continue to deliver our excellent fundraising growth plan over the next twelve months.

Working with the whole network of National Trust staff and volunteers, you will need to inspire and encourage all our teams and take inspiration from their incredible efforts.

This is a genuine chance to contribute to the Trust's growth, and you’ll need to do this with and for people. You’ll be the inspiration behind their brilliant fundraising efforts, and you’ll need to guide, influence, support and nudge to make sure you get the best outcomes for nature, beauty, history and people.

A full role profile can be found attached.
