Hillier Funeral Service is recruiting a full time Trainee Funeral Director. Established in the 1920’s we are proud to be one of the oldest family businesses in Swindon and the surrounding area. The role on offer is a challenging position working in a busy environment that encompasses all aspects of the funeral trade.
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the Funeral Trade:-
We will provide full training so you will move onto:
1. Meeting clients in office to take funeral instructions.
2. Completing documentation and arrangements for funerals (cremation, burials and the interment of ashes) including liaising between ministers and families and doctors or hospitals.
3. Maintaining both manual and computerised records of funerals.
4. Invoicing clients and following up unpaid accounts.
5. Administration of donations.
6. Maintaining accurate details of ashes held.
7. General office duties including answering telephone queries and correspondence.
8. Production of service sheets in Microsoft Word & Publisher and producing photo montages using video editing software.
9. Assisting with setting up the service room and wake room including laying out food and making tea and coffee.
10. Removal of deceased from hospitals, nursing homes and private addresses during working hours.
11. Driving hearse and limousines on funerals (full clean driving licence).
12. Bearing on funerals.
13. Coffin finishing
14. Preparation of Deceased
15. Cleaning vehicles.
15. Conducting mourners on chapel visits
16. Journey work for removal of deceased.
17. General duties as directed.
The funeral trade can be very unpredictable and the employee will be expected to adopt a very flexible approach to their work and will be expected to work extra overtime, sometimes with little warning.
Training
Training will be in house.
The successful candidate will work from Kingshill House, Kent Road, Swindon, SN1 4NH
Hours
8.30 – 5pm Monday – Friday
½ hour lunch

24 Days per annum (holiday chart first come first served)
No holiday is allowed during December & January
All holiday be agreement with management.
1 day in lieu of Bank holiday on call.
Pension Scheme
Employees participate in company pension scheme following successful probationary period
Employers contribution 6.5% of Basic Salary.
Probationary Period
Successful applicant will initially work a 6 month trial period

Hillier Funeral Service will carry out laundering of all dark clothing. Shirts and own clothes are to be cleaned by employee.
White shirt and tie are to be worn at all times. Employees are expected to be of smart appearance at all times during the employ of Hillier Funeral Service.
